I was thinking of participating the Lord Mayors show but they are asking for £4100 is this the norm?
I know you have participated in the past.

| Not sure what it cost the MCR but it is not a cheap event as proceeds go to Mayor's charity and the costs of staging the event in the City are vast.

Hi Alec,
Cliff is right. It is not cheap. I have arranged MCR involvement in 4 Lord Mayor's Shows so far. An excellent day out but costly. I arranged private sponsorship on each occasion - once from Rover, once from an electrical contractor, once from BMW (MINI) and latterly from a German concern.
I have sponsorship arranged for 2009, (50 years of Mini/MINI) to have 50 cars (Mini and MINI) on the event. With 50 cars the cost per car equates to about £100 which I cannot charge people for participation. Therefore sponsorship is necessary. I have in the past charged people involved around £5 - £10 per car to cover the cost of rally plaques, balloons, stickers, postage etc.
You also have the big problem - No car can break down because no realistic space for recovery. We instilled for every car, that in the event of a failure it became a sponsored push with everybody in the car getting out and pushing. Fortunately, touch wood we survived in 1994 with 35 cars, in 1996 with 35 cars, in 2001 with *39 cars and in 2004 with +44 cars. (should have been*40, sorry Cliff) and (+45, sorry Andy)
Fabulous day out, a wonderful experience, especially for people who are not Londoners. The end of the event at dusk on ther River Thames is a fantastic firework display on a par with what happened for the New year.
The Morris Minor Club actually have increased their annual subs to members to allow them to participate each year, then they invite people to participate so that they have different cars each year. They did not take part this year so they can concentrate next year on their anniversary.
You may be better off trying to get into the New Years Day Parade in Central London, about which I know nothing, though I believe that Rog the Hat participated once.
Good luck don

Thanks for that.
We have done the New Years Day, but it was a bit dodgy as some participants smelt heavily of booze.
The 1st year I saw the Essex Mini club was there, but the year we did it LSMOC was there also.
So perhaps not such an impact with 3 clubs.
Food for thought and thanks for your time.
