HI folks,

Anyone know who the OEM was for the fabric sunroofs on the late coopers??

Got any good tips on care and maintenance? I've used the Autoglym vinyl care gel and it seems pretty good and leaves it nice and black.

Not sure what to do about the running gear though??

I'd say it was Webasto, since that was the make of the glass sunroof (Tudor Webasto Sunrise) that got fitted to the 1990 RSP Mini Cooper LE and the electric fabric sunroof that got fitted to the 1992 Mini British Open Classic LE was also a Webasto product.

Armour All (I think that's how it's spelt?) is also a good product to use on fabric sunroofs and we used to lubricate the running channel on my sisters 92' Mini British Open Classic LE with petroleum jelly (Vaseline).

She never had any bother with it anyway and this site may be of interest since it relates to that model which was the only UK based Mini to get an electric Webasto fabric sunroof factory fitted as standard: -

It also shows an exploded view of the sunroof on that site too.

If it needs a really good clean, ie to strip of several years of treatments, try Renovo products. Available from Moss, Frost, and most 60's sportcar specialists. Remember Mini sunroofs were never 'fabric' in the way sportscar hoods were - you need the vinyl products.

You'll find maintenance information on the BMIHT maintainance/parts DVD but it basically amounts to keep it clean and apply a very small amount of Vaseline on the rails. If you've got spare time on your hands I'd suggest taking the time to clean any old lubricant out as it picks up dust and goes from clear to dark grey, if this then ends up on the headlining, and it will - don't ask me how, it's a pain.
