Great to put faces to names at this show. It took me an hour and a half to get away from my car once I was parked up....yes I love a good natter !!!! This is a really worthwhile show to go to if you like vehicles other than Minis.
One downer though...a really ignorant , overbearing anorak who asked me if my car was for sale and then laid into it telling me everything that was wrong with it - how rude ! He was looking at my 1961 Super, but obviously thought it was some cobbed up MK1 with a load of Cooper bits on it. I must try to remember his car so I can run like hell from him at future shows !!!!

Don't you just love people like that
It's inexcusable running a car down to it's owners face!
I suppose his car (if he had one) was a true concours, original spec car then? More likely though it was a 'real head turner'
Either run the next time you see him or a well aimed kick in the cods is another option (if you can find them)

It's just their way of dealing with their envy and insecuritiy Sal I think.....
A mate of mine who has a few lovely classic cars listens to such people then says "Never mind mate, it's not you car...." OR "Well, lets go and look at your car then!..."
Of course, they've always come in a Mondeo or something and don't actually own ANYTHING worth crossing the road to look at. They just KNOW a lot......and if you own something a little unusual that they've not seen before, then it MUST be wrong mustn't it?
WE know though, don't we children . Just laugh at them Sal. That's the best policy .

If I am right, this chap had a MK2 Cooper in Almond Green , which was in some sort of rally style. I felt sorry for his poor wife- at least I could walk away from the bloke !!!!!
With all this happening, I forgot to say about the lovely old man with the really original Clubman Estate. I didn't see the car at the show, but realised when we were talking that I have waved to him on numerous occasions !
The guy who runs our college course told me I should have said that I advise the people in Practical Classics when they write about Minis, seeing as I own five early ones !!!!

| Sal, experts and things they don't expect are a great laugh as long as you don't take them seriously. My '93 Open Classic was modified from new by Wood and Pickett at a cost of over £15K but the 'experts' advise it can't have been and has just had odds and sods added and the badge stuck on the back. Even though it still features throughout the current W&P catalogue and has the black and gold badge which is still only provded to proven W&P owners, the fact it doesn't have electric windows really confuses them. They can't get their heads round the fact the original owner didn't like them and therefore didn't specify them!

| I just can't believe how rude people can be to other people about their cars. I wouldn't dream of going up to someone and pick their car to bits. It's even worse if you don't know what you are talking about, which clearly this chap didn't. It's funny when know-it-alls make idiots of themselves, but it's the being rude bit that I don't appreciate. £15k on a British Open Classic................well that is certainly a limited edition worth spending out on- they are great !

| The thing that really gets me down is it's usually mini owners. Inter marque/model discussions are usually much more frank and open along the lines of 'I had one of those but........' allowing the owner to explain what, why, and how. If mini owners could take the same approach and accept that it's the owners car and they get their own pleasure doing whatever they want to do to it. There are tips to be found from all sorts of strange sources, if the owners already had enough of you you won't even get to hear them never mind try them.

| I get what you are saying. The funny thing is that I have done nothing to modify my Super (apart from my reverse rims), but the bloke thought I'd put incorrect bumpers on it as the bumpers have got corner bars, which according to him didn't go on until 1964. I thnk the bloke was getting desperate in his arguments as he told me to speak to the Chairman of the Thornycroft Society, who has 3 Minis !!! I could not wait to get away from this character and as you have said, any advice/tips given would have been ignored as I'd had enough quite early on in the conversation !!!!! I do like to listen and learn more about the cars, but not from overbearing, ignorant fools like him !

His opinion on the 'expert' could have been more entertaining!

I think Andrew had it right, just kick the pratt in the cods, he may not do it to others in future then, or his offspring won't be able to.
