I have used Duckhams 20/50 oil in the past & it was a green colour!
I bought some yesterday from motorworld exacltly the same but it was a transparent yellow colour!
it even states it's the green coloured oil on the carton.
anyone know anything about this?
Craig.

what I got from Motorworld in the past and from Mini Spares this month was green, so I'd enquire with Motorworld.
In fact I didn't bother getting my recent batch from my local branch of Motor World this time, because they claimed it was difficult to get hold of and they asked if I'd kept my old can so they could re-fill it after they'd located the stuff!
I didn't like that idea and that's why I ordered a fresh can from Mini Spares which came sealed up in a plastic bag and the oil there in is green.
So could Motor World be putting any old oil in those cans?

hmmm...I have put the oil in the mini now. (but I kept a little in the bottom of the can as I ws a little dubious about the colour)
I also changed the filter & cooper washer whould I need to change these again if I change the oil again within the next few days??
Thanks
Craig.

I too buy Duckhams 20/50 in the hope that it is a better quality than some of the cheaper alternatives (I previously used Unipart but now hard to get locally) I buy the Duckhams from a local independant factor and it HAS lost the traditional green colour which was I assume just a dye anyway? It does say on the (now plastic) container that it IS the same 'green' oil........Who knows .

I have been using Duckhams for a very long time now and it has been green all that time. Indeed, they used to have 5liter tin cans and have now switched to 4.5liter plastic botles. Nowadays, I have a 60liter oil barrel full of the green stuff
It's good that it is GREEN as that seems to mean environmental friendly these days. So, Duckhams is the most environmetal friendly motor oil

I received a reply from Castrol
You neeed to speak to Castrol-BP themselves for the answer, Castrol Consumer

Unfortunately my working hours mean I'm not about between the usual 9-5 that most offices work, so if anyone else wants to give them a call to check up on this then I'd be grateful, as I'm sure everyone else will.

I'll try and give them a ring tomorrow to clear this up once and for all.

Perhaps we'll now see some hugely expensive "Original New /Old stock" GREEN Duckhams 20/50 on ebay ! I'm off into the garage to experiment with some yellow oil and some of my wife's food colouring pots .

Have I missed something?
£49.95 / 4 = £12.50 per can.
Honest.

It's not a bad price for 4 cans, just coincidental to see it for sale following Richards post.
I suppose it really does not matter what colour it is as long is it's the same blend as the original green. A few days in an A series gearbox turns it BLACK anyway

Right I just telephoned them and they said they've now stopped adding the dye for health reasons.
The product itself is perfectly safe to use, but it was stopped at the manufacturing stage for safety reasons.
But it's the same quality oil and the green and now not green oil are both compatible with each other, because it's the same oil but with no dye.
I hope that clears it up, but it does sound like a lame excuse to me?Last edited on Thursday April 10th, 2008 09:12 am by taffy1967 |
