More like the insurer hasn't really got a Scooby what he/she is looking at and has readily agreed the value requested by the owner by looking at the value of a concours Mk1.

You only have to look at the ads in the two Mini mags to get some idea of the over inflated asking prices of some of the more down to earth and modified cars to see where the agreed values are coming from. Still can't work out how the insurer came up with a value of £8K for the modified gold Mini 'The ultimate head turner' currently listed on fleabay :?

I presumed the Mini Owners Club had a reasonable idea about value. They valued my S at £10,500 which is probably a fair price. Mind you, who knows what I'd actually get if I sold it.....?

Not sure who did the valuation on the gold mini..... suspect it was a mate of his after a few beers! Decimal point in the wrong place I think!:D

Didn't see the bit about the Mini Club valuing it. Generally most insurers will accept a self assessment valuation up to £10K or so and if they agree then no problems. This is the sort of over inflated valuation I'm refering to. But they must look somewhere to 'agree' them and the only places are the specialist car mags and the internet.

Very nice Norton  OEW/Black does look good, I agree.

I seem to recall seeing that registration number at a Mini show several years ago (unless there's another EDL out there).

Is it a grey/grey interior ?

ADL looks a great car as well.

It was a grey/grey interior, but I have now managed to locate the correct red/gold brocade (an eye watering price!) :?

It hasn't been on the road for many years - I've only had it for about a year. The last owner did a reasonable job at the bulk of the restoration, but got nearly all the detail wrong.... its a slow process to get it all looking right again! I must admit though... not a lot of the original car remains unfortunately. :(

ADL 800B is a great car (1071S) it did the minis to monte run last year.... I fully intend to take EDL 124C next year! Anyone else up for it?!

At least you admit that there's not a lot left - the same as virtually all the others after 40 odd years. Only a very select few will have survived intact.

We all know how difficult detailing is but that what makes an average restoration into a great one. Keep it up :D

Will you be taking it to Bo Loo next year !? Very much doubt I'd do M2M but it would be a brilliant event.

I fully intend to do as many Mini events as I can next year. I've not been able to do many this year due to work commitments (not had a single day off for over a year!:X)

I did go to Beaulieu this year, as its not too far from me.

The car is not all that reliable at the moment, which puts me off travelling too far. A full engine rebuild is planned for the winter! :D I'm going for the original look with perhaps slightly modified internals;)

Looks great Norton!  Inspiration for me!  I still think I'll do my (Australian) 'S' Old English white.  It was beige originally.  It isn't my favorite colour but it'll look OK and I must choose something that doesn't clash with the (Australian again) green interior which is in quite decent condition.  Surf blue would be my first choice of colour but I really can't justify the expense of the correct interior in ANY colour and would rather spend my money on getting the body right.   Almond Green would be the obvious one to go for but I just don't like it...(apologies to all those who do!).

Norton,good work fella !!

OEW does look good, far better than Snowberry on MkII's (IMO).
You're a lucky bloke. The green 1071,is that really Almond green ? It looks more like BRG or Connaught but perhaps it's the shot.

It was a late 80's/early 90's Mk4 with a 1961 ID, the usual ringer with the only 1961 part being the chassis plate (which was probably a repro one as well). :D
