Just another one to get off my chest.
I may be a 100% died in the Wool MK1 fan, but I have absolutely nothing against the new MINI. Am I the only one in existance?
My brother has just sold a Hartage Cooper S after owning it for a year, I have never driven a more Cooper S like car EVER!
Anyway, just thought I'd try and start something here too.

Fully agree.
When we attemted a trade in with the wife's VW Golf for new Golf, VW gave us a low value, 2k lower than we sold it for. So we looked around at other everyday, reliable, sporty(ish) cars.
Tried the BINI 'S' and placed an order. Picked up BINI in Sept 2003 done 40,000 miles so far with no probems.
Since getting the BINI and after the M2M, got the Mini bug again and managed to get an Inno, which is being driven and slowly restored.
I,am not be mechanically minded or know what I need to bring car back to original or near, but there are many good people out ther willing to help and give good helpfull advise, and I'am learning as I go along.
I wonder what would have been the main opinion if Rover had released the BINI with backed marketing and to great success. Mini or Crap Car?.

Yeah
It would have been a completely different story if Rover had produced the new MINI.
I think a lot more people would have accepted the car instead of slating it.
My mate races one in the John Cooper Challenge and hads just won this years championship.
He has taken the car to bits on numerous occasions and said that the build quality and quality of components is fantastic .
Despite the arguments of whether it's worthy of the Mini name or not, it's still a great car in it's own right.

We've had our BMW Cooper since July and love it. It's probably responsible for me selling my MGB and buying a classic mini! There are similarities between the old and new minis but like most modern cars the Bini can drive itself and cover hundreds of miles in a day without you feeling tired. It's a daily hack that can still make you smile.
I don't like the way BMW treated the private classic mini businesses (and other BMC/BL/Rover makes) and I don't like the way the old company was split up. However business is business and most mini businesses have survived.
But yeah, if you haven't tried a Bini give it a go. It won't ever replace the classic but it's great fun in it's own right.
Phil.

| I thought I would add my 3 penny worth. I bought a Mini One very soon after they were released. I still have it and it has been the best car I have ever owned (an believe me I have had a lot of new and varied cars) and faultlesss to being boring. However, like the old car it is not ! They are so different, that the oly thing they share is the word 'Mini'. I keep thinking of trading mine up or in but see no reason - yet !

I doubt even if Rover were selling the BINI, that it would have been any more accepted as a replacement Mini, after all we didn't accept the so called MiniMetro of 1980 now did we? And that was originally intended as a Mini replacement back then and John Cooper even developed a Metro Cooper too but Austin Rover used the MG Metro name instead.
Thankfully we got the Mini Cooper back in 1990, but the original Mini shape which remained largely unchanged was in production for over 41 years and something like the Mini just can't be replaced.
Pity BMW didn't call their creation something else, like Metro, Allegro or Maxi? Well it's closer in size and weight to those really and to call it Mini or MINI is a joke and an insult to the original.
Just my 2 pence worth.

Yawn indeed, I thought the 1990 car was an insult to the original !

No the 1990 car was much the same as the 1961-1971 car (look the same too!) only with a few updates along the way and at least it was still an Issigonis type Mini and manufactured on the same production line too!
More than can be said for the BMW Hatchback!
