Hi;

Just had a response back from Heritage dept after submitting a request for a certificate detailing the build of my 1961 New Zealand registered Morris 850.

Apparently it was exported in CKD form so no build info available which is dissapointing.

Does anyone know some facts on when cars started and stopped being exported fully assembled? I had assumed that all Morris or Austin badged cars were shipped out from the factory complete and CKD kits came later on? (My '64 Austin Cooper was shipped out built up albeit a long time before I showed up on the scene!).

Come on; educate me please!

Cheers'-

-Shane.

OOPS..Just realised this is prob in the wrong place... sorry!

The general rule is that 850s were all CKD, and Cooper and S were imported fully built up.

I think this applied from very early on if not the very beginning, of course there were private imports.

i reckon we are lucky not to have assembled Coopers here, as then we couldn't get a heritage cert for them, Aussie has this problem.

BTW was your 850 first registered in Nelson?

Hi James;

Cheers for your input, That info all makes good sense and you are right, we are fortunate with the Coopers.

Yes, she is a Nelson car.

Hi James;

My AU plate car has a chassis number in the 28800's, I was wondering if yours was close? Would be interesting to note the production changes between them.

Mine is 444019, would have thought it may have been closer than that.
