I've recently bought a black Mini 30 to use as an everyday car so I don't get Mini driving withdrawal symptoms in the winter, whilst my Mk2 Cooper and Mk1 850 saloon are tucked away in their garage!! It's in pretty good, original condition apart from an extremely rotten windscreen scuttle panel, that is beyond repair. I need to take off off the upper dash rail trim to weld the new scuttle on - does anyone know how to take it off - is it stuck on, clipped or screwed on ??!!

Any help greatly appreciated.

There are three nuts located on the underside of the dash rail which you need to undo. one at either end and onein the middle behind the ash tray.....

Hi Kieran,

Many thanks for your help - located the nuts and have removed the dash top. Now for the worst part - replacing the scuttle panel!!

Regards

Andrew

Hi Andrew

I know exactly what you mean. i did mine earlier this year. once you get into it, its not so bad... good luck. I've got a '92 cooper and it was in an awful state this time last year it have even gone rotten at the top of the A post. i had to cut 2 sections of metal into it..

Regards

Hi Kieran,

Your car looks great now.

I bought the '30 as a daily runabout (via but not directly off eBay) and thought I could patch the scuttle up until the summer but did not realise until I got it home that the windscreen rubber was not attached to the scuttle for about an 18 inch length as the lip had rotted out!! I'm going to cut a panel off a scrap car and replace the centre (and worst) part leaving the outermost parts until the summer as the wings will have to come off to replace them, which is a pity as the wings are excellent! My garage is currently being occupied by a '62 Fiesta Yellow 850 saloon undergoing total restoration so I haven't got time at the moment to repair the 30 to the standard I would like but I will do it next year once the '62 car is finished.

All the best

Andrew

Andrew,

Thanks very much for the complement. i changed the door skins, scuttle, door hinge panels, half rear boot floor, complete new front end, and a complete respray and loads more in the luxury of my tiny garage.. not bad for a first atempt.

The 850 looks like it's going to be one hell of a job. Will you be doing all the work yourself?

Hi Kieran,

One thing is for sure, later Mini's rust just as much as early ones!!

I am doing the work myself, apart from the respray which my Dad will do. Yes, it is a big job but will be worth it in the end! So far I've replaced the front & rear floor up the the 1st flute, inner/outer & top sills, inner/outer a-panels, subframe mount panel, rear pocket panels, inner rear wheelarch assembly, boot floor side. Then there's the same on the passenger side!!!! Guess what though - the scuttle panel is perfect apart from a tiny bit on each end where the wings meet!!

regards

Andrew
