I have recently had my Mini LE40 stolen. I paid £7750 for it and looked (rust free with all the trimmings) and drove like a dream. The insurance is offering me £3500. I have obviously refused their kind offer. They have asked me to do some 'research' to prove that my Mini is worth a lot more than what they want to give me. Any ideas, opinions? Many thanks.

I am not an expert in this area but if I were you I would get proof of other similar cars that on sale or recently been bought for the value you are asking.  Good luck.

That's too bad sharyola and your insurance company is having a laugh.

Apart from using the classified ads that appear at the back of the 2 national Mini Magazines, you could also join the "Mini 40 Register" to see if they can help you out: -

sharyola,  As luck would have it, I was reading minimag last night which had a buyers guide to the 40LE.  I'm sure it said there was only something like 250 produced for the UK market (in Mulberry Wine (burgandy) and something like 150 in the two other colours.

I'll get the issue date/number tonight and pass it on - it may help prove how rare these cars were.

Yes they issued the Mini LE40 in three colours (Old English White, Mulberry Red and a blue, Union Jack colours) to celerate 40 years of Mini. Only 250 were issued. My little Mini was Old English White.

I've checked through my issues and I seem to be missing that one. But those buying guides usually provide a price list too, so it would be worth passing that on to your insurers.

The Mini 40 Buyers guide was in the October 2006 Mini Magazine - has a bright yellow mini on the front cover.

It states:

'In general you are looking for an investment of between £3500 and $7500 for most cars, with excellent examples being found for around £5000. You could pay up to £8000 from a dealer for an exceptional car with low mileage, while even an example in poor shape will fetch upwards of £3000 for its rarity alone.

Typical prices:

Mini 40 in white - Private sale, 35k miles, £4800

Mini 40 in Island Blue - Private sale, £5200

Mini 40 in Island blue - Dealer, 30k miles with 75 bhp engine £7295'

I've also had a quick look on the net, and found these, which may be useful to demonstrate the current value of the cars:

Hope this helps.

First post - hope this help.

http://www.theminimart.co.uk/73888/showroom.htm

Minimart have a Mulberry 40 in atm for £7500.

White 40's seem to be rarer than the Mulberry too.

Hope you get it sorted.
