I have been a member for a few months and have gone to a couple of the Kent group nights. They are  held on the first Wednesday of the month, meeting at the Old Rectory Oxley Lane, Leybourne (near Maidstone). The first time I turned up  there was a fair number of Southern Mini Owners group there, but no MCR members (I felt as if I had gate-crashed their party and was asking to change the music...). They  told me that no-one had been down from the MCR for ages.....Had a beer and went home.
Whilst visiting the 'Southern Mini days' event in August, at the Hop farm at Beltring, Kent, I met a couple of guys that had joined the SMOG but were, I believe, initially MCR members. One of them owns an 'S' and the other a MkII Cooper; both of the cars were green and sickenly in tip- top condition.... I had hoped to get along to the next MCR group night to catch up with them,  but could not make it.  I made the trek there last night but although there were a few SMOG marked newish Minis in the car park, I couldn't see anyone I recognised, or that looked like they were 'in a group'. ...Had a beer and went home.

Perhaps if there are any MCR members intending to go to the next group night, could they put a message here? I suspect i'm not the only one who has had this experience. I will not be able to go every month, but I don't think I'll be going back again unless someone else says they intend to turn up.  I can drink lots more beer at home!

cheers! Roger

hello Jon,

Yes I did contact  one of the regional representatives before I went to the meeting; they were helpful but he didn't realise it was the group night...he did indicate he may attend but was obviously unabe to.  As detailed in my first posting, it was only attended by Southern Mini Owners Group members who told me no-one from the MCR had been down for ages...

regards,  Roger

Thank you for this information.
I will discuss fully with Ian and at the committee meeting on Sunday as I think all the MCR regions should be active.
If anyone else out there has had similar regional experiences please let me or Ian know? i.e where the region has "sort of been absorbed" into a local mini club and no MCR members attend?
On behalf of the Committee I would appreciate your responses.
The Mini Cooper Register is a national/intenational club with a wide geographical spread and our national day is in the south; which in my opinion is a shame as I have met a lot of members from "up north" who find it incredibly expensive to travel/stay for the event. I find it expensove to travel north.
The Cheshire region organised a fantastic event at the Oulton Park Gold Cup meeting this year which has generated a great deal of publicity for the MCR and from what I have read in a number of magazines, its members have also been to a lot of "midland /northern events." Oxford region members had a big input into the National Day at Beaulieu, MITP and the BJ autobits day. H&NL region did its own stands at Enfield Pageant and MITP. Hampshire region supported Beaulieu and MCR 12 car rally events. Thames Valley members were nvolved in Minis to Monte 2 and local events and the annual Bournemouth social weekend.. Essex region organise a lot of local events and "Sussex" do their bit. South London & Surrey fly the flag at London to Brighton.
If I have missedany region I apologise, please put me right.
I am based "down south" and have a local membership, we attend our local events and have supported the main club at many shows, Mini & classic, over the last few years.
I look forward to receiving your replies.
