Thanks.

Well at least it's not stuck to a red and white 850 pretending to be a 'works ' car !
Ooops, bit of politics !
I eagerly await a plethera of complaints in the next MCR mag !

Surely nobody's done that !! Seriously though, most 'works' cars were "Irishman's axes" even while in BMC's ownership 40 odd years ago. There are very few that have survived with their original parts reasonably intact and probably none that have had long, hard competition careers....Even when we know the truth, it is nice to THINK that some of the surviving cars are 'ex-works' cars and carry on the spirit and tradition! In truth of course much the same applies to ordinary road going Mk1 Coopers.

| 737ABL was scrapped by a Hertfordshire scrapyard in the 1970s. It was up for sale in Motoring News for a while but when it didn't sell the owner scrapped it! He must surely have regretted this move 10 years later.

Not sure if I'm correct in this but I seem to recall seeing one of the ex-works cars at Beaulieu back in the 90's that was in 'as written-off in a rally' condition and would not be restored as it would destroy its originality. Can't remember the number of it but sure I took some pictures of it. Have to search through my photo's!!

Hmm, you're right, but I can remember this particular car drawing a lot of attention. Probably just an 'ordinary' rally type Mini.
Found a couple of pictures of an unrestored car on a trailer at a different show purporting to be EJB 55C from around 1991. Island Blue paint peeling off to reveal Tartan underneath.

I have seen EJB ( I did not know the number ) at the time. Nice car, but I think like them all it will be a lot of work

Such a shame...do you know for certain this was the fate of the car?
Could the reg have been moved to another car, so could still be around?:

I have some photos somewhere - taken at the 89IMM at Silvestone - of a Works Mini. One of the LBL cars I seem to remember.
I think the story was that the car had been sold after coming back from the Monte and had been crashed soon after during a practice session. There wasn't a straight panel but all the bits were there; even what were alleged to be route instructions from its last works outing.
At that stage the owner had had it for 20 odd years, kept it untouched and still ddin't know what he should do with it.
Mind you, the photos are now almost 20 years old and I'm not toooo sure where they are.
Cheers, Ian

LBL66D, pics of car on Guy Smiths worksmini.com, i have pics of the same car in a MK2 shell from the 1968 Tulip rally, another example on how they moved reg numbers around, on the car in Guys picture the door squares are yellow, as used in the 1967 monte that it crashed on, hitting the infamous boulder, so is this the car that actually hit the boulder on the monte ??!!, and did it sit for a while with its reg number on a mk2, and according to Peter Brownings works mini book it then did 7 touring car races !!
