Yeh - soon get that fixed up!  At least it doesn't seem to be too rusty!

If BMC had a Mk2 with the same registration,  my guess is that they sold the damaged one without any ID which was common BMC practice at the time, and built up a 'new' car with the old ID.  I'm guessing that the owner of the damaged car doesn't have the ID for it hence not having done anything with it.  If I'm right, it would be an interesting case if he applied for a V5 wouldn't it!   It does appear (from the ride height) to have an engine.  BMC often removed them, selling the cars as a rolling shell.

When I last had a Cooper S on the road in the late 1970s/early 80s I was told that a works car existed locally (we're in the Oxford area, so there was lots of stuff around at one time...) that had returned from a rally, was sold immediately and had been in storage ever since....apparantly in untouched condition... I did try to find out but never discovered which car it was , where exactly it was,  who owned it, or what happened to it.....I'm not sure if it was damaged or not but it was an intriguing tale, and probably largely true - from a reliable source sworn to secrecy.  It was some time ago, but perhaps it's still out there........It is amazing what IS still about!

This Mini has its own page on Guy Smith's website.

Click on "Go to the cars" on the left, then down to LBL 66D.
