Wasn't 619 AOG such a car? (Tommy Wisdom/Jack Hay 1960 Monte Carlo Rally)
I think Farina Grey was only used on the Austin variants.
I can't find my copy of "The Works Minis" which is an excellent source of info, due to recent house move etc. but it would probably provide useful details....

As far as I know all the 850cc 'works' competition cars are long-gone. They would of course only have had the very rare cloth trim if they had been basic/standard models. The much more common deluxe did not have it. I'm sure there are photos of these cars. Modifications to them would have been rather less elaborate than was later the case with the BMC works Cooper S.........
Again, the book 'The Works Minis' by Peter Browning gives much detail - you should try and obtain a copy.

This may be of interest, a "works rep" 850 rallied by Peter Barker and Willy Cave (ie "Scrappy") with overbored 850 and Cooper brakes (not S). I believe the nice check rally seats that were in this car are now in 977 ARX (perhaps swapped). If anyone knows where to find these seats, I wouldn't mind a set myself...

This car was rallied in a European retro rally and did very well.

860 VHK was not the Peter Barker car - his was an Austin registered 7879 NK.

| 618 AOG M Sutcliffe/D Astle Acropolis rally May 1960, chassis No A/A2S7.7045 was originally grey but was handpainted green in 1973 then sold by a mini specialist in reading to one Andrew Everett who matched the shell to a 1973 mini 850 but only the engine, gearbox, front and rear subframes would fit 618 AOG was sold for £500 in 1987 no further information

618AOG was Speedwell blue from memory although it had so much paint on it it was hard to say - it certainly wasn't the red one (617AOG). I bought the shell in 1985 from a Mini specialist in Reading as it was absolutely rust free. However it came on a Q plate, the V5 for which I threw away eventually.
At the time I had a 1974 Mini 850 with a serious side impact and just wanted to build a decent Mini from scratch. I applied for a Hertiage Certificate for the shell which cost £4 iirc and was a pretty basic document back then. It was from this that I learned that AA2S7-7045 was supplied to the competitions department at Longbridge (not Abingdon). I can't say I was that bothered at the time. It was paint stripped and as I was doing an apprenticeship at Nias of Newbury (Austin Morris dealer) bodyshop, it was painted in their oven in Targa red with a white roof. It was built up with the subframes and wiring loom etc from thnat 850, an 1100 Clubman Estate engine and box from a 1979 write off, 998 Cooper discs with an Imp servo, Cosmic wheels and Cooper badges and a Benelite grille (no spotlights). For trim I robbed the two tone stuff from a 1960 Mini Minor.
At the time DVLA were not reissuing the original numbers so it had a VSV series registration. Around 1987 I decided to get rid of it so it was fitted with the rod change 850 engine, twin leading shoe drums, standard steel wheels and Austin Seven badging. From here it was sold for £600 to a guy who was shipping Mark 1 Minis out to Japan and that is where it went.
It's possibly not the only one to survive. Around 15 years ago a mate of mine aquired a white 1959/60 Mini Minor and a rotten works MG1100 from a guy called Nobby Hall who was a BMC works mechanic back in the day. The Mini had an engine from another works MG1100 with Amal carbs and a straight cut box as well as bits like the demister shields on the screen and a trip speedo. It was robbed of these special bits and sold on and the last I saw of it was outside a house near the open prison on the Bicester-Thame road with a for sale sign. It had been (badly) repainted BRG and we're going back to around 1992 ish now. Now I'm not saying the white car was TMO561 but it's possible - a lot of these cars were sold on minus the original number plates and a few choice bits. If I could remember the Q plate for 618AOG I would know when it was registered.

| Incidentally, a 1960 A55 MK II Austin Farina, Registration No 718 AOG was owned by a Mr Mitchell in Birmingham, which would probably confirm Works Mini 618 AOGs Registration to Longbridge
