Not to sure if this is the right place on the forum but here goes............
I'm thinking of an SPI for rallying. Power output doesn't have to be excessive but say 100BHP at the flywheel.
I understand however that the SPI is pretty difficult to tune & still pass the MOT emissions test.
Peter Barkers "works" Rover Mini was an SPI however & I don't think that that car was anywhere near "bog standard"
So do the panel have any opinions as to the best way forward & who has the best "gear" for good reliable tuning.

Its not that bad - its the MPi's that cause real problems.
Omex (http://www.omextechnology.co.uk/) are the people to talk to. Their system runs on our Group A Mini. The regulations limited us to standard valves so not the most powerful example, but about 90bhp and very tractable.
I would also talk to them about custom throttle bodies. Unless you are complying with regulations there is no real need to stick with the stock inlet.

You've managed to get close brackets in link so it fails. Try this: http://www.omextechnology.co.uk/
Neil, Omex looks good. Am I right in saying 'Mildred' and the like ran Weber Alpha? This seems to be great until emissions time, my Grand Prix LE spec Cooper Si was sorted by JCG by return to a standard Spi cam and modded Rover ECU, Omex seem to have this cracked with the inclusion of a Lambda sensor input.

Whoops - thanks for fixing the link
Mildred ran on Omex in the BRC and Rally GB, she still does
I spent some time talking to all the ECU manufacturers that I could find when I was deciding which way to go. Most people I talked to were not overly helpful, more of a case of "it will probably work on a Mini, try it". At the time (not sure what they are like now) Weber Alpha was hugely expensive and you needed to go to a specialist tuner, they were also a bit long in the tooth by then. Omex on the other had were very enthusiastic and helpful - and they also design the equipment so they know how it all works.
No I'm not on commission!
Lambda sensors are good for road use as they change the tuning to match engine wear. Competition cars should be re-tuned more often, so the ECU will hold the ideal map for that engine. If you've spent a lot of money obtaining that ideal map for ultimate performance then you don't want a lambda sensor messing it up! So it depends what you need the ecu for
