I have agreed to put together a calendar of events for the magazine and on the website. Please let me know which shows you think the MCR should have a presence at in 2007. I am taking note of forum comments this year.
While using the facilities at Gaydon on Sunday I read an advert for a 2 day Mini event "with" MiniWorld on 23rd/24th June.
National Mini Cooper Day is booked for Sunday 10th June 2007.
I would also like to hear from members who intend to compete in 2007; HRCR, HSCC, Midland Speed Championship and any other events including Concours.
Please let me know which events we should include in our calendar.
If you would like to display a Mini Cooper please let me have details to the e-mail address comps@minicooper.org
Many thanks,
Cliff

Well you could support the MiniWorld Action Day @ Castle Combe better next year perhaps and that doesn't mean parking half a dozen or so silver/grey BINI's together in the paddock. ;)

It's all very well being critical about the the display of cars on the MCR stand at the Mini World Castle Combe day.

The committee has through out the year via the magazine and by direct communication to the various regional organisers asking them to attend events to represent the MCR.

As in every club there is a core of people who give up lots of time to run the club, attend shows and run events. There is a limit to how many these people can do. Hence, our continual pleas for people to help run events. We cannot do everything. It seems it's always the same people who do everything.

The committee lay down no rules as to what may be displayed on a stand as long it represents the cars which belong to the Register. The choice is upto those organising the stand.

As for Castle Combe, we were approached by member of the club who was willing to organise the stand. He is to be thanked for making the effort to do this and represent the register.

But considering most were the same type and colour, as a result the stand really did lack variety & imagination.

I take it you'll be organising a stand next year then Taffy ? ;)

I'll be doing my usual  thing at Capesthorne Hall (classic car show) at the end of May, and the Gold Cup again at Oulton Park in August.

It would be nice to see an MCR stand at Stafford Bingley Hall (BMC) at the end of January and Stanford Hall should have featured a stand as so many members attended. I'd be happy to organise the Bingley event. :)

Hi Glen,

As I live in Rugby I'd be glad to help out at Stanford Hall if you want to put a club stand on next year. I've always enyoyed this show down the years, being centrally located its a good venue with a good atmoshpere and there were some cracking cars on show this year as well as those in the car park.

cheers,

Nidge

Hi Glen, Taffy & UWB672G and anyone else willing to help promote the MCR at shows
You don't need to display a car at a show; a display of knowledge on a stand would also be much appreciated.
Please get in touch with me with you own e-mail addresses if you wouold like to help (in any way) so that I can discuss further with you. Offers of help are always gratefully accepted and you have my support which I will discuss with committee.
My personal aim is always to promote the MCR's main objective of preserving the Mini Cooper name.
The display at Oulton Park was outstanding and imaginative and an example of what we should be trying to copy. Same colour cars are, in my opinion along the same lines of the same cars at every show.
Ian Chilcot will not as active as he would like for the first 6 months of 2007 and Bingley Hall is very close; I am sure Dave Hollis will allocate us space if we ask.
Let's get together with a display of a variety of cars owned by members; not all need to be pristine but we shoudl strike a balance. Do you agree?

Have already contacted Dave Hollis, I'm happy to take this show on and find some cars we don't see out every day.

Stanford, and for that matter the NEC shows really should be organised locally to avoid costly hotel and transport bills !

This is an important subject, shows are our oppotunity to promote our club to the public.

In my monthly letter informing them of new members I have written to all 20 regional contacts asking them which regional or local shows and events they would like to attend next year so we can advertise an MCR presence in our calender of events for 2007.

The club can provide promotional material and regailia such as the marque and banners etc, and there is usully an opportunity to attract new members. We just need a person who is local to these shows to organise an MCR presence. The club may even provide some financial assistance (subject to approval from the committee).

The problem we have is that very few people offer to organise an MCR display at these shows. The shows that do have an MCR display are usually organised by the same people year in year out. Sadly there is a lack of enthusiasm from a lot of regions.

I am afraid that I am not optomistic about the response that I will receive from my letter, as usually less than a handfull reply. I would love to be suprised!

If any of you know these regional representatives, why not ask them which shows their region is attending and why they dont have an MCR display?

In addition, due to a career change in January 2007 I will be out of service with the MCR for 6 months. Cliff Porter has kindly agreed to temporarily take over until I am able to return to my position on the committee.

Ian Chilcot. Regional Co-Ordinator.

Yes Tony the letter has already been sent. I made the same request last year, but only heard back from the usual few.

Ian, thanks for that.  I'll get on to our regional rep and have a word.

Good luck with the new career.

Tony.

Still sorting things out re Bingley Hall.

The main problem I have is that the organisers (British Mini Club) are insisting that all club stands enter the theme of the show which is to be "holiday camps".  Changing a potentially (has been previously ! :( ) excellent show into a kids panto is a bit of a shame, especially as I'm wanting to bring some very interesting cars this year. I'm all for a bit of a titter, but actually I think all that silly malarky detracts from the appeal of the cars, so it's not looking good.

It's not all bad. I went to holiday camps in the 1960's and there were lots of Minis about. I remember drooling over Cooper S's which I could not afford. Why not get the cars together and dress up the owners, mini skirts and "high de thigh." Just a thought. Also there were the "Beatles." Come on, let's go for it. I've got a pass for the weekend and will give full support.
