Because Innocenti Coopers were imported here into the UK, most carry license plates issued at the time of actual import.

Obtaining a correct age related plate for you car is a fairly simple process. I will send you a letter verifying the cars age and type and the correct suffix it should carry. This letter is then sent to DVLA at Swansea, or taken to your local VRO office.

The plate is usually issued within a couple of weeks from Swansea, or on the same day at your local VRO.

Please feel free to contact me for more info.

Yes, it does !

You shouldn't be paying road tax on a 71 car.

Does it say on the V5 that the car was manufactured in 1971 ?

Or, just imported in 1981 ?

I havent got the V5 at the moment cos im at uni, but i will check when i go home in a couple of weeks. I found this on http://www.inno-mini-world.com Mini Cooper Mk3 with defl. 1000cc October '70 139,523 to January '72 150,505, and i know my chassis number is 142,911, so that would be a late '70 or an early '71.

Hi Foster,

I’ve found my log book and it has the following details on it:

Chassis number: 0142911
Reg: OBO 972X
Declared Manufactured Date: 1976
First Registered: 1982

The manufacture date is wrong because Mini Cooper Mk3 with defl. 1000cc October '70 to January '72. Chassis Number 139,523 to 150,505 http://www.inno-mini-world.com/Innocenti/Innostuff/Production_Figures.htm

Kev,

This may sound daft, your car has a similar numberplate to the one mine had when it was imported - WEH 932X.  I got DVLA to send me the history of my car - all the owners and whatnot. I found that a garage 'autochange mini' in Stoke registered my motor. I'm told that for a given area plates are similar - it'd be interesting to know whether yours came from the same company??

Anyway, the history is very useful - I got in touch with the second owner who had a load of pics of the car from 1984 and also he'd put a UK boot on it and stuck the original one in the loft and gave it to me 22 years later!!!

My new plate VBY 822L is similar to some imported porsches, corvettes and citroens that i've spotted in London.

Richard;)

Hi Foster

Not quite the same query but close, I have an Innocenti 1300 Export, private Reg JIB 433 but originally Alastair Vines car as BKT 179V. The original V5 states year of manufacture 1975 and it was imported in 1980 according to the DVLA. The VIN in 550309 which makes it an October 1973 car and I'd like DVLA to acknowledge this but allow me to retain my Reg No. All the Sikursiv glass on side windows and the front opening air vents has a 3 first number which seems to confirm 1973. I've now actually spoken to Alastair so he's aware that I have "his" car 20 years on and only my daughter and I as subsequent owners. I'm on Teesside as I mentioned before and it was rebuilt by John Kelly after Alistair bumped it. All working now but I'm wondering about fitting a new floor and sills, existing are strong enough but I wonder if it's feasible to replace them as I do not want to lose the Innocenti right hand inner wing identification or change the whole bodyshell.

Best regards

John Boyd
