I have recently got myself a Mini after nine years away, cold turkey was really kicking in. In the past I had a whole host of Minis including an Innocenti. The Innocenti was purchased after a phone call from a uni friend. I bought the car as a project. Some work around the front end had been done but the boot floor was rotten as was the roof. The roof also had a poorly fitted sunroof in it. I got the car minus rear subframe. I put a subframe on it to get it on its wheels.
At the time I contacted the Innocenti Register through the National Mini Owners Club and spoke with Larry Shaw. From the chassis number it was identified as a non export model. I cannot remember the exact model Larry said it was. I few details I do remember are: It had the early twin cable hand brake, Mk2 rear lights, ie larger but no reverse lamps, it had front discs and remote servo bolted to the inner wing. I don't believe the engine was original but was a 998 lump. The car was originally a metallic looking mid brown, although most of the outside was either primer or chocolate brown and the engine bay red. The reg plate was not age related but was DLB218Y.
I had the car about 9 months and as a student at the time never had any cash to start serious work. Then my father closed his workshop so I had to sell the car. Larry Shaw came down from Leeds and bought it from me. That would have been about 1994. I did contact Larry in 1996 and the car had been sold on but not started.
Anyone know what happened to it? I would love to see a photo of it fully restored
