Can anybody help with a problem I have with a P reg Mini Cooper. The car drives perfectly apart from it idles at about 1200rpm as opposed to 850-900 that I would expect. I have carried out a fault code read which has pulled out 24 unknown fault codes.

Not sure about the Mpi, but a split breather pipe caused similar numbers on my Spi. Don't know how the Mpi is plumbed but I'd suspect they'll be at least one pipe connected between the throttle body and the engine. Mine was the pipe from the charcoal canister which collects petrol vapour then feeds it back into the engine when warm to get rid of it.
The increased speed is caused by the ECU correcting the mixture. The air leak would give a weak mixture which the ECU then increases the fuelling to balance. Increased air and fuel gives increased engine speed.

blackberry, there was a Kieth Calver article on the injection minis a little while back which covered all the sensors as fitted to the minis, one of which I'm sure mentioned caused an increased idle.
I will dig out the magazine and let you know the month of the mag (I made sure I kept it because of the problem solving section), but it won't be anytime soon I'm afraid - I'm packing the house up in preparation of moving. I don't think the missus would be too happy if I suddenly started unpacking and reading all my old mini mags!
Anyone else know the issue in the meantime?

blackberry, there was a Kieth Calver article in a mini mag not too long ago about the injection minis and the sensors fitted to them, one of which if dirty/not working well causes increased idle speed. I'll try and dig out the issue (won't be anytime too soon though, I'm trying to pack the house up before moving house - the missus won't be too happy if I start unpacking and reading my old mags!)
Anyone else know the issue before I can get the answer?
ETA Damn computers!!!

Thank you all for your help and suggestions. I will give them a try and see if they cure the problem.
