Hello there,
How many of you have got Original Rover Radio / CD players fitted? and have you had any trouble with it?
Mine plays no worries but I'm sure it's draining the battery either that or the alarm. (have sorted earth straps etc. but battery drains in a fortnight and I'm sure I can hear the speakers crackle now and again when the ignition is off!!)
Anyone out there had the same experience?

I've got the original R570 Radio/Cassette in my 1990 Mini Cooper and that's been very reliable. Okay I need new speakers but so long as it's switched off then there shouldn't be any current drain other than for the radio code memory which is nothing.
Alarm/immobilisers tend to be the biggest culprits for battery draining.

Probably water leaking through the windscreen onto the stereo, tends to not do them much good.
The CD/Radio was actually rebranded BMW unit made for them by Blaupunkt, so general reliability shouldnt be a problem.

Anyone know what current the immobiliser plus alarm should pull when armed?
And whether the radio needs voltage only or draws current to keep the code?

Well obviously it will draw 'some' current, although for the KMA feed it will only be a couple of milliamps.
The alarm can depend on the radio conditions. They can drain the battery if there is a lot of interference about (ie if you park under a phone mast or something) as they keep 'waking' the alarm up from standby mode.
How much total current draw is there from the battery when it's everything is off?
YOu can connect a test meter to it and get a start figure. Then you can unplug the radio and see how much the current draw drops. Also try disconecting the alternator, these can be another problem (on any car), if the rectifier is fried then it'll drain the battery back through it. Recheck the draw each time you disconect something and it'll give you an idication to where the fault lies.
Basically the main current draw shouldnt be more than a few milliamps, if the draw is only small then it points to the battery not charging, either the battery is tired or its not being charged.
I assume, you've taken the battery off and given it a good charge, checked the electrolite levels and specific gravity etc?
