Hi All,
Planning a trip down to Cornwall in the summer and as we have a baby now its going to be a bit of a squeeze getting everything in!
Can anyone recomend a roof box for a Mini? I don't ever recall seeing a Mini with one on so I hope its possible.
Also as its just one trip does anyone know of a place to hire them? Would also like some locking clamps for the roof bars I already have.
Cheers

Dont see any reason why you couldnt have one.
Obviously it can over hang a bit at the front and rear of the roof if need be, but best not to have it over hanging the sides. The boxes all fit on standard Roof bars. In fact i think Rover listed one in their options catalogue.
YOu could always put a traditional roof rack on your bars then rope and sheet it the old fashioned way.
Personally though i wouldnt put by baby in either, they're far better off in the car.....

I've got a standard (second size up I think) Halfords roof box and roof bars. I bought them over a decade ago and their still like new even after lots of use: -

Taffy,
What make is your roofbox? Someone told me they used a P. Hopkirk and that it bowed and scratched the roof. IMM is calling and I'm bringing wife, 2 kids, 4 sleeping bags and a tent (though not all on the roof!)

TBH Paddy Hopkirk stuff is fairly cheapo gear, basically he made a fortune by putting his name to generic unbranded stuff, good luck to him. Dont recomend buying PH stuff though.
You have to be wary when people say one bowed though, i mean its like people say shopping trolleys are hard to push, but then theyve loaded 1/2 a ton in them!

Their just Halfords branded items, I bought them in 1996 and they've been superb.
I once bought a Paddy Hopkirk roof rack and that went all bendy. Okay we did overload it slightly, but the Halfords stuff has proved pretty unbreakable even when overloaded.

You should never have this problem, even with the flimsiest box, on a mini. Problems are caused by bad positioning of the supporting bars. A quick think in terms of unsupported areas should sort it - check out how many boxes end up supported either end leaving the middle able to bounce and touch the roof.

Yo!
Your roof box looks good!
Do you know what the rough dimensions are?

Here is a picture of our perhaps email them and ask them if they still carry them, fits perfect on roof strong and tough and secure, we had ours strapped to our bars for 4 years, best investment we ever had, still use it now were home, when u look at some they look cheap and struggle on high speed ours has been tested and can say 100mph is fine fully loaded with 4 adults gear in roof 4 adults in car 4500 mile trip in 4 weeks, these little suckers handle well,
The bars we have are mini branded ones we got a rover cleareance sale, these are beginging to bow so need news ones they were £20 box was £80 best £100 I have ever spent
Take a look at size and style there worth every pound and there a sexy shape, sponsored or not hahaha

Rover did two different bars, standard and premium. Standard were made by PH, premium were Thule.
Rover's price for the standard ones was like £90 or something, PH sold them for £30.

I got the leather Parcel shelf trim from that clearance brochure.
I wish i'd got a few of the Tool kits though haha
I did look at those roof bars too, but as i said PH were selling them for £30 anyway so they werent really cheap.
The other ones were more complicated and suited bike carrier etc
They didnt bend though.
