Hello all,

With 8 weeks to go I've finnaly got my new car seat, the Quinnz Maxi Cosy. The problem is the seatbelts are not long enough in the back! It only needs to be about 2 inches longer.

It fits in the front seat, but I want to keep it in the back.

Any suggestions?

Cheers

Don't know if this is any help, but here's a link to the Rover-XPart Accessories site which provides the recommended baby seats for the Mini: -

James,

We have exactly the same problem, with a rear facing seat we have to use the front seat (& belt) with the eldest in a forward facing seat in the rear.

Don't know what the answer is (are some seat belts manufactured that little bit longer?  Doubt it) but console ourselves with the fact the youngest is located in the centre of the mass of the car, so to speak.

Would be interested in any solution you find, but to be honest it will probably be too late for us - Jnr No2 will be progressing into a forward facing seat in the not too distant future!

I think you can buy seat belt extensions from some manufacturers, I know Volvo sold them for their baby seats.

Hi all,

I found this on the internet, but as the buckle on my car is litterally only 2" away from the mounting point, its not quite appropriate.

I think the front seat belt is longer than the back, so would it be possible to swap them around? I'm not sure as the front one at least has the seat belt tentioner when you hit the brakes...

Cheers

I'm not really sure what you mean by that?  Need more info, but i would have thought if the seat belt was too short then an extension like this would do the job? The extension is longer than 2" but then the seat belt is retractable so it shouldnt matter.

Fitting the front in the back should work in theory but obviously you'd lose the pretensioning system, the tensioner tube is attached to the reel via a steel cable, which could be cut off quite safely.

Of course you could just email Britax http://www.britax-pmg.com They made seat belts for Rover through their OEM business. As they're also a maker of Child seats then i expect they could advise you, or even make a one off extension, quite easily.

hb, only problem I can see is determining minimum length. Anything fitted at this length is going to remove the lap belt section as the fastening point will now be 70cm away from the seat. Everything dependant on how belt fits round seat.

James, these guys should be able to sort you something out: http://www.quickfitsbs.co.uk

Are only the front seat-belts of the pre-tensioner type on Twin-Point Minis?

Hi, neewb here but just wanted to offer some advice on fitting a maxi cosi car seat into a mini. My gf is running around in a X plate Cooper sport and to fit the baby seat in (maxi cosi cabrio) we had to purchase a separate base called the Easi Base which the seat then clips into. The seat belt is easily long enough as it fixes through the base rather than around the seat. DON'T! get it mixed up with the Easy Fix base which is the version for cars with ISO fix. Hope this helps:D

OH and when the little uns ready to move up a size I can recommend the Recaro Young Sport as it goes from stage 1 (9 months) through to 12 years without being massively bulky like most  group 1 seats, which incidentally tend to only go up to age 4. It is not much more expensive than most group 1 seats at around £140 and can be bought through Halfrauds.

Hi all,

Thanks for the pictures and advice! I finally got the easyfit base, which just fits in the back of the car.

Charlotte Quintin was born on Thursday, and we took her home in the cooper yesterday afternoon.

She was very happy in the back as you can see from the photos!

Cheers JQ
