Hi Rover Cooper lovers!
Feel a bit lonely as I have a 1996 John Cooper Spi, number 68. Does anyone know how many of these were made, was it 100 a year or just a total of 100? (or whatever number!).
Never seem to meet anyone at shows etc that has another Cooper S, although perhaps I'm not looking hard enough!

Colin,
Welcome to the forum...
I have a slightly older Spi with an S conversion. This I brought new in 94' directly from Coopers and I had them put an Si plus pack on as well as a handling kit.
Despite being now 11 years old and the tin worm is getting at the A panels it has done just short of 40,000 miles and is still great fun!
It has been rallied in the UK and in Europe and completed both the recce runs for our Minis to Monte event last year

Thanks Robert, so I'm not alone! Mine has just done 37,000 miles, so they obviously don't get used a lot, although as you say great fun!
Perhaps we can get them all (if there are any more!) together on a display at a show one day?

| Contact the Rover Cooper registrar to ensure that you get a place at the National Mini Cooper day at Beaulieu? next year.

Hi Colin, I too have an Si #"007". New from John Coopers in 1995. Its seen a fair bit of England and some of Europe. With only 42k miles and not too much rust to worry about, it's doing just fine!
Cheers!

| Had No.76 from new until just over two years ago. The rust started popping through all over the front end so rather than pay a small fortune, she went to GC Motors at Swanley. Tahiti blue. Still miss it.

Hi all
I have number 28, bought new in 96 and so far has only done 47k and is still in immaculate rust free condition, mind you it does only come out in the summer months.
Nice idea to gather as many as we can for Beaulieu, and possibly start a John Cooper Conversions register, along the lines of the RSP register. worth a thought.
See you all at the shows hopefully.
Tony

Hi all...
I have number 52... as far as I am aware there were 300 in the 1996 (ish) batch...I was lucky enough to have 1 of the 5 (I believe) that had the dual fuel tanks fitted...
Unfortunately I crashed mine and it is in the early stages of a rebuild..
@Bloke... did I meet you at MiTP over the weeked?!? That person had number 7, nicegreen one...

Hi Tom, that was me at MITP. I have PM'd you.
It was a good event, plenty of cars to look at and a chance to catch up with friends and make new ones!
Question? can you still get a right hand petrol tank fitted to the Si.
Cheers

Yes RH fuel tanks may be had from the main suppliers of mini parts. Mine has had to come out to be pressure tested as I can smell fuel. So it may be an idea if you are about to buy one of these to have it pressure tested before fitting it. The come just as a tank so one needs to buy things like fitting kits and petrol caps etc. See my comments about fitting a RH tank to an MPi in the MPi section.
regards

Hi everyone
I am new to the forum and have a question regarding numbers of SPi cars. I have a 93 SPi which had the conversion done at 97 miles back in 93. It has had everything done to it engine, handling pack, Moto-Lita John Cooper signed sterring wheel and the Cooper full leather seats. I am confused as the later cars have lower numbers than mine which is number 111. I have checked with the JC Garage and the number is right for the registration. Did they reset the numbers every year??
thanks in advance
John
