In order:
Not many, if any.
Depends where you are. Aftermarket specialist fit only in the UK, every car sold in Japan. Is yours a Japanese car that's been repatriated?

Check out the crowded underbonnet picture of this Jap import Mini with Rover air con that was on ebay, (condenser and fan in LH wing, compressor under alternator and evaporator under passenger side parcel shelf):-

Bit busy, ain't it. Any idea where the ignition shield fits?
I've done an in situ clutch change on a '93 carb, looked at how much more is involved on an Spi, but this looks as though it could go on forever - mainly moving stuff for access!

thats the company that i bought my mini from!
the problems with air con are that it takes up loads of space in your bonnet and you cant buy another dashboard because of the vents and switches
does anyone know the best way to get more power from a spi?
maybe a re-map of the ecu?

A decent Stage One kit is a good start.

Yes buddy it is and you just replace you're exhaust system with a better quality performance type and perhaps replace the standard manifold with a long centre branch type or LCB as it's called.
Then you could also replace that standard air filter box for a K&N filter instead.
Anyway a first class company to deal with for all you're exhaust needs is Maniflow and here's a link: -
http://www.maniflow.co.uk/
So just click on Mini, then the "MINI COOPER INJECTION 13i LCB" and finally the "Expand parts list" box.
There's a bit of a selection there, but I'd personally stick with a (Classic Road and Competition Hi-Flow) (S) "side exit" twin box system and LCB.
If you ring them then they'll sort you out alright if you tell them you have a single point injection Mini Cooper, but don't fit an exhaust that's any bigger than 1"3/4 because drain pipe sized systems will affect the performance on standard engined Minis.
If you're Mini Cooper 1.3i is a post 1992 model then you're going to have to retain the cat, but don't worry because it doesn't really affect the performance (like it did on carburettor equipped models), so just tell Maniflow you also have a cat and leave it to them.

And here's that K&N filter I was talking about: -

Quick question twebb182, whats the rustproofing like on your jap import car? Not that its brilliant on any car from Rover, but I've heard of some jap imports having minimal RP. Might be something to bear in mind!

| And while I'm at it DaveShreeve, do you know who produces aftermarket kits suitable for a classic mini?

Wood and Pickett in Leatherhead, Surrey supply and fit Air Conditioning for classic Minis, if you contact them ask for Mike Standring, he's the boss, a very helpful Mini enthusiast, I have known him for years.

When there's no details or price and they want you to call, you just know it's going to hurt!

Yes, they know how to charge. My British Open, converted prior to Mike being involved, hit the road in 93/94 at around £24K. Note, I'm the second owner after Mike used it as a demo car for several years.
mab01 - thanks for picking up the question.
taffy - JCW didn't bother with an LCB on the Spi up to 85bhp. Maniflow can however supply an improved manifold to cat pipe. Probably worth checking prices, LCB being more popular may be cheaper, depends how close to original you want it to look.
I'm advised the standard ECU will handle Stage 1 kits without problems. Going further than this needs to be discussed with the supplier to make sure either the mods are compatible with the standard ECU or a remap is included.

taffy
is it easy to fit the air filter??? because there is really not alot of room under the bonnet! lol
and the do you have to take the engine out to fit the manifold? or is it possible to fit from above or below?
what do you think of this manifold
http://www.minispares.com/Product.aspx?pid=32849
cheers buddy thanx for all ur help!!!!!!
p.s. me and a mate found that, if u cut the bottem off, and make a slit at the back of a red bull can its fits nicely over the ignition coil!!! lol looks wack

In that case then you might want to get it fully rustproofed with Waxoyl or Dinitrol, because now it's in Blighty it's sure to start dissolving soon.

The air filter should fit because it effectively just replaces what's already there, but that manifold/Mini Spares link you provided isn't any good for you're Mini because you have a single point injection car and that is for a carburettor equipped Mini.
You should be able to fit a replacement manifold or LCB with the engine fitted, or at least we did anyway.
But I've heard that attaching red bull cans (or any type of can) to the coil isn't always a good idea because the coil can then overheat and fail as a result.
