i was driving around on Tuesday when the engine just died on me . It seemed like it had just stalled but i was unable to get it started again, then the battery went flat.
one of my first thoughts was no petrol but this wasn't the case. I've since check under the bonnet and found nothing a miss wires etc. I'm getting petrol up to the injection unit and there's pressure at this point, but with the air filter removed i can't see any petrol getting into the injection unit. I've bypassed the fuel cut off switch and the two relays next to it so this rules them out.
anyone any ideas it would be most helpful.
cheers Andrew

| Sounds like a dreaded Engine Management System (ECU/individual sensor) fault to me. Very similar to my problem before Lombard 2006 with my mpi. I suggest you find a suitable and very friendly/efficient Rover dealer with the appropriate Rover Test Book equipment to computerise/diagnose the fault. Good luck.

That did also cross my mind as well, i will try to check the sensors / units attached to the injection unit as i have a spare from a previous problem first, and let you know how i get on
Thanks for your help what was the cause of your problem?

i've just put the battery back on. i've still got petrol up to the injection unit but it only turns over and does not fire up.
when i turn the ignition key i can't hear the petrol pump kick in but would i still have petrol + pressure at the injection unit?
so which part is faulty the petrol pump or the fuel relays located on the top left hand side of the engine bay.
any one got any more ideas

| Have you tried resetting the fuel cut-off safety switch that's located under the bonnet?

Thanks for info I did bypass the fuel cut off switch but had no luck still.
I think I've found the problem the fuel pump relay that mounts on top of the servo, I opened up the unit and found that part of the circuit had burt out and split the connections on the board.
Does any one know if this a common problem and what causes this to happen.
Got a second hand one coming in the post.

Well I've got it running again, i replaced the fuel / main relay board and it started up then stalled again .
I eventually traced the problem to a broken earth wire located in the loom just below the ecu connectors, it had corroded though. only took 3 days to find!!
