Hi,
My beloved Mini Cooper 1.3i engine has just blown up. I am not a mini expert by any means however have been told that I will need a full new engine and apparantly gear box.
I really dont know where to go from here. I have searched the web but just cannot find where I would get something like this.
Any advice greatly appreciated as I want her desperately back on the road. She is a L reg cooper 1.3i. Would require approx 45k miles
Thanks in advance

Mega at Bromsgrove are often a good start: http://www.megamodz.com/html/megamini.html
There's usually a couple of Mini breakers advertise monthly in the Mini press.
At a push - Ebay.
How did it go bang? This obviously determines exactly what is required. If you can find a local Mini specialist they'll be able to give you more of a clue.

Try asking a few Mini specialists like Somerford Mini Spares: -
http://www.somerford-mini.co.uk/
Or ask Rover/X-Part if they have any reconditioned units left: -
http://www.xpart.com/index.htm
I know you can get fancy built engines from the likes of Mini Sport or Mini Speed, but I've heard a mix of good and bad things said about them.

Thanks for your guidance. I have just had a mini specialist come round who has told me that I need a complete new engine as the piston as shattered the block.
He said he could fit a 55,000 mile mini cooper engine, total price £850. This includes full rebuild, painting, new clutch etc..
As I have never done this before I am not sure if this is a reasonable price
Any advice appreciated

£850.00 doesn't sound too bad, so long as the engine is in top condition with an as new gearbox too.
But you don't want to go buying an engine that's simply been cleaned up and fitted for that price and I'd expect that the gearbox (synchromesh and bearing etc) have been replaced at the very least.
But check out the specialists that I provided links to on you're other thread and compare prices and deals.
