I remember being somewhat underwhelmed with this particular model when it came out, like many other so called' purists' on here, but I have to say I've definately gone soft on 'em and might even buy one as I've found a similar RSP locally with only 3000 dry miles on the clock !!!
So hard to value though. Most buyers tend to go for the later cars, so possibly a good buy me thinks....and no doubt still alot of fun for the money...

rsp coopers
wish i never got rid of mine but seem to be chasing the rust aroung as well as my mk2 cooper at the time.
THINGS TO BE AWARE OF
Do you know the signatures on the bonnet are different to all aover john cooper signatures if you look at the way the writing is and the white surrounding the black writing on an original rsp signature and any other rover coopers you will find they are different
Do you know the carpet fitted to rsp coopers is not listed in unitpart or by rover dealers
fuse boxes fitted under bonnet which are screwed onto the soundinsualtion corode causing electrical problems
inline fuse holders fitted behing air filter tend to break with age or engine movement , i moved mine by extending the wiring
The so called dust cover for the wiper motor causes all the dirt and dust to gather on the park switch on the rear of the motor causing it to corode which gives all sorts of electrical problems not just on the wipers

Think I saw this motor at Bingley, didn't you win something Steve ?
Wouldn't it be great if one day the MCR organised an indoor show like Bingley, I'm sure BMC make a small fortune !

Just read these comments on the RSP. I wanted one at the time they came out to compliment my rusty collection of MK2 Coopers. I ended up with the last of the carburated ones. From new it had a few problems and then failed the first MOT on rust. Put me off for a while, but, like you Glen, I went a bit soft and bought another one a year or so ago. The MK1 Cooper still gets used, but I use the Rover Cooper on a daily basis. Needs regular maintenance but I still love it. A little raw by eurobox standards, but great for the journey I do these days.
Would'nt mind an RSP like that one though.
Tony.

Well I've found one exactly the same as Steve's, same mileage (under 3000), pretty mint ,but no clue on value and unsure what to offer, any suggestions ?
Be a shame to drive it regularly though, as it'll probably fall to bits

Glen
I'm not sure really, as good RSPs are rare. I paid £1750 for my car which is mainstream with an S pack. It has nearly 100k on the clock and although the bodywork is pretty good, the mechanical side of things is in need of attention. I've already had to put on a new ex manifold, subframe mounts, thermostat, alternator, wheel bearings , calipers and rear slave cylinders to mention just a few things. I still think it was worth the money as I looked at so many sheds!

this one is hopefully going into a book published by haynes soon,
its too good to drive , should be in a nice warm showroom somewhere..hehe
will be out and about through the summer at various shows though
glad you like it , i do to.
got myself a nice rover sprite with under 6k on the clock and have done a retro job on it, its nearly finished externally, thats the one i,ll use more regularly .
take a look there if your interested....http://www.theminiforum.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=17553

Andy Well I'm not so lucky as I just have a Mainstream model, so i'm always envious when I see a nice RSP, but I still love me old Mainstream to bits anyway and I've owned it since January 1994 and I must say it's still using it's original fuse-box and well that's still working fine even though the sound-insulation is still in place. The in-line fuses can be a pain, but mine were always okay, but my Cooper now has a K&N cone Filtercharger (although I've kept the old air-filter housing anyway) oh and the park switch on the rear of the wiper motor just tends to go haywire after a few years anyway and in my case the fuse in the fuse box block previously mentioned kept blowing and the rev. counter stopped working too. Once I replaced the park switch everything was fine again.

No it won't fall to bits at all, but if you want to keep it in concourse condition then obviously you can't use it much, but that's so boring as a Mini RSP or any Mini is fun and enjoyable to drive, so it'd be a pity just to bring it out once a year and polish it!
And anyway we've been using our 90' Mainstream Cooper as the family car since we got it back in January 1994 and it's taken us to all the usual Mini shows like Bealieu and on holidays and camping trips too! All i've done is make sure it's regularly serviced and it's been 100% reliable, but I do admit it's had a few new panels replaced/fitted over the years and a new (genuine) rear subframe too. But if I had been waxoyling it, I probably wouldn't have needed to fight the dreaded tin-worm. Still for a car that's nearly 16 years old and used regularly, it still looks good!

Hi
If anybody is interested I'm going to be putting my BRG RSP Number 37on Ebay shortly, but thought I'd mention it on here first. I'ts not perfect by any means needing front wings, front panel, A panels, door skins and a few other bits needing sorting. It needed the front replacing when I bought it but since then I slid into the back of a car when it was snowing, so now the front panel and wing is bent. I've got a receipt from JC garages for the car, It's fitted with walnut dash and door cappings, John Cooper mota lita steering wheel, 12" supalight wheels & tyres which are only 10months old, new maniflow LCB and twin box system. I'm asking £795 but if I can't get it I will break it.
If you want pictures email me and I'll send them to you
Many thanks

You'd have to be nuts to break it! I mean RSP's have rarity value and are very collectable and well I've spent shed loads on my ordinary Mainstream, keeping it healthy and alive, yes mine's had a complete new front end, sills, rear subframe etc too, so your RSP is far from unsavable and deserves to be saved, not broken up.
Please think again!
So put it on E-bay, put it in MiniWorld and Mini Magazine. put it in classic car magz, but basically don't break it mate, you'll only regret it in the long run I can assure you!
