Think thats been on here before.
Not sure how they can say its a 1991 though, as far as i know all RSP's were built in 1990, and seeing as it's unregistered.

Presume '91 is the invoice date from the main dealer.
It has all the hallmarks of an RSP but was it known as a John Cooper special edition in Ireland, or as described a Mini John Cooper?
We have seen it before but I can't find the post.
Obviously unregistered in '91 but doesn't that apply to every year since?

tbh RSP's are often refered to as 'John Cooper LE' , 'Cooper LE', '1990 LE' etc etc
The factory parts catalogue even refers to them as 'Cooper LE' So adding John on the front is still acurate really.
I'm not sure how you would stand with registration, i mean could you now register it as an 08 plate? I mean how long do the DVLA allow you after manufacture to register them before giving you an age related number.
I dont think being unregistered makes any real difference to the value, i mean if you had an H reg car with delivery miles surely it would be no different.

I'm not sure either but think there could be a problem. The mini was discontinued, and the Mpi introduced earlier, because the vehicle didn't meet current legislation. I reckon you'd get 2 choices - register as '91 or not at all. If you want to use it I think words with DVLA are needed before spending the cash.

Thing is on the V5 you have, year of first use and year of first registration. Usually they're both the same obviously.
I think if it was registered as an 08 you'd have problems with insurance companies ratehr than the DVLA, my sister had grief insuring her 1990 'austin' metro.
But i've seen 52 reg MPi's running about.

| Not sure what has happened to them but a few years back a local Ford dealer allegedly had three unregistered RSP's up on blocks in a heated garage. As far as I can recall he managed to buy all three (red, black and green) when they were first announced.

It would be interesting to see if they are still there or what happened to them. Maybe I'll take a drive round there one day in the yellow peril. That might get him talking
