Having always had cars with HS2 carbs, I was a little flummoxed when I considered topping up the dash pot today on my HIF44. Cannot find anything in Mr Haynes book, or the basic Rover owner's handbook. The tube into which the damper fits seems to be rather narrow (but then I have not looked in a HS2 for some time) and there was not the 'suction' one usually feels when pulling the damper out - probably a good sign it needs topping up! Any advice anyone on routine servicing of these carbs? Richard :?

essentially the Dashpot design never changed on the SU, so it's just the same as your HS's.

What oil to use will be another Debate all together, some say thin oil, some say thick. Burlen do a specific oil for the job, i've always just used 10w40 engine oil personally.

Thanks HB. I Haven't looked at the single & twin SU's from my 1100 and 1300GT for some time and it just did not look the same when I pulled out the damper and looked in - probably lost quite a few brain cells in the last three years, particularly having gained two sprogs in the mean time. I eventually topped up the dashpot with a 3 in 1 type oil and all seems OK. Richard. :)
