Can someone clear up a puzzle for me. I drove a friend's RSP when they first came out and that car had a shiny metal RSP badge on the boot lid, towards the bottom of lid on RH side. Was this a factory fitting or something added perhaps by the dealer. My friend can't even remember there being such a badge on his car. I have looked at seceral RSPs and none have had this badge. Am I going senile..help.
regards
Tom

Aha, perhaps I'm not going senile and there are such badges floating around. The hunt continues. I shall have a close look at RSPs at Beaulieu.

Must admit, I've never seen it either. Only extra badge I've seen is a small 'catalyst' one on some cars, as can be seen on the picture below:

Rear view of an RSP on RSP Cooper Register buyers guide page. Additional Rover badge but no RSP badge.

I've seen some early Rover Mini Coopers with a 'catalyst' badge on the boot too. Come to think of it the last one I saw was a red Mainstream Cooper driving through Tenby town back in 1994.
Anyway I've never seen an actual RSP badge and it's not mentioned in the recent Mini Magazine RSP Cooper buyers guide either.

The catalyst badge was one Rover were fitting across the range in the early 90's, at the time Unleaded petrol was being pushed, and all new cars at the time had to be capable of running on it.
Cat's were actually put across as a selling point on many cars of the era.
You'll find the same badge on the R200/400, which when you see it, it was clearly designed for those models.
I'm not sure if all RSP's had them originally (they had cat's), but most people pull those badges off as they look naff and after a bit of polish the silver wears off and they look worse.

Thought these Mini Magazine articles were quite good until this month; then you realise most of it could be made up without even looking at the accompanying photos. British Open with SPi, picture shows HIF38 carb, SPi only available on German version about '95 never in UK. Silver coachline - actually gold. Colour matched seatbelts - they're black. 'By appointment' tabs on seats - no such thing, crest as external badges and similar to that on 'Thirty' and 'Forty', nothing to do with HM.
So would they even be aware of an RSP badge?

Mini magazine has gone downhill over the past couple of years tbh.
I mean i've seen cover cars with huge rust scabs under their headlights.
although to be fair i've seen a few gafs in the tech section of miniworld too.

Yes I've noticed the gross inaccuracies too and it is a shame they don't try harder, because those guides would be very good if they did.
Perhaps instead of trying to fill the magazines with the same stuff that has made them slightly repetitive, it might help if they published a more polished quarterly magazine that would be worth waiting for and investing in.

I guess the trouble is though there are only so many minis, so what ever they publish is always going to be repetitive, it's not often you see something you havent seen before.
Fact is there is only so much you can do to a mini, before it's no longer a mini, and i think pretty much everything has been done.
