I have recently ordered a aldon ignitor LU-143 for my 1973 GT

On the minisport website it says its for 1974-1980.So I think I have orderd the wrong type.  is there any way I can find out exactly which one I need?

it also says on the packaging: ignitor lucas 4 cyl (43 NO VAC)...I presume this means no vacum (but I think my dizzy had a vacum on the side).

the guy at minisport said have a look on my dizzy and if the numbers 45D are on the side the ignitor I have is OK, but if it says 42D then I have the wrong one.

is this correct?

Checking the Pertronix catalogue there's no listing for a 42D. The 43D and 45D use the same kit, one of 2 depending on what type of points they use. The 25D uses its own kit - an LU-142A. Read it yourself here: http://www.pertronix.com/catalogs/pdf/ptx/2007/ptx_2007.pdf
