I have recently bought some nos side light lenses. But when searching I noticed the full sidelight units for sale had chrome surrounds.

where these standard or an addon?

is there anywhere that makes repo surrounds? or does anyone know of anyone who has a pair?

I have never come across any on e-bay (apart from the ones fitted to the full units..which are quite expensive).

thanks in advance

Craig.

Well looking at Somerfords pdf parts list, I can't see any chrome surrounds, but the Riley and Wolseley indicator/side lamp does have a chrome rim lens.

So perhaps thet has been added to the Clubman ones you saw for sale?

Just checked Legacy parts listing produced by Unipart in '98 for '80 - '85 mini. Obviously no side/indicator unit for 1275GT, but no chrome trim on the unit listed for the mini estate.

The Clubman side light/indicator unit had a chrome look rim as part of the unit but it was on the inside of the lens.

Elf/Hornet side light/indicators are a completely different size to Clubman ones.

Like Simon says, I thought the Clubman's had a chrome look built into the plastic around the edge of the lens. I can't remember ever seeing a seperate chrome rim like on the Elf/Hornet.

If you can post a picture of what you have bought we might be able to identify them.

here's the link to the pics (I've also seen loads in magazines...but like you say they might be the built in ones).

http://www.delius.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/1275gt/featured/default.htm

The one's I 'm replacing have no chrome inner & the lenses I have bought are just clear plastic with a orange inner to one side.

here's some closeups off e-bay:

the lense I have bought dont have any & the old lenses did'nt. here's the new ones:

I wonder if the chrome is on the actual unit?

)?

oh..I'm replacing my headlamps...do I need sealed beams one's for a clubman?(if so do they make sealed units that fit modern bulbs)?

& what do people know about radiator grill muffs? (are they for rallying/extreame cold weather)?

Craig.

The Clubman lenses generally had a bright 'chrome looking' surround built into the lenses.  Don't know why yours haven't!   They had no seperate surround.  I've an idea they were the same as the Maxi.  The Elf/Hornet were quite different (like a Morris 1100).  Sealed beam units are still available new (though not Lucas ones) and cheap too.  As an alternative, several manufacturers produce halogen replacements which are popular.

Thanks! quite a few people have said this now, just unlucky my old & new lenses dont have them:(

I bought some Wipac headlamps but noticed the sidelight hole...obviously the clubman's had seperate sidelights. Not too bothered as I would prefer modern high output bulbs if it's not possible to fit halogens into sealed units.

You can still get Lucas sealed beams (and halogen) headlamps from here: -

But I doubt those sealed beams would be suitable for the Mini 1275GT?

The only difference between Clubman and non Clubman sealed beams is the side light aperture.
