I'm going to buy a new carpet for the GT.

Which are the best? Newton Commercial? Somerford?

Update: (I would like a navy carpet but Newton doesnt make a molded carpet in navy as the pile is too thick. I really wanted a carpet that molded around the exhaust tunnel). I'll check the somerford guys out.

Thanks

Craig.

The original carpet would not have been moulded.

Newton Commercial probably supply the best quality carpet, or you could try these: -

this is what Somerford said:
Many thanks for your e-mail. Our carpets are made for us and are of very good quality, but they are not made to the original spec. They have a separate piece sewn in to form the tunnel. They are made from tufted carpet and have sewn edges - price £69.75 incl. VAT. They come in a variety of colours and incl. the rear parcel shelf.

might just go with newton as they have the original spec and I would have thought they will fit better...I suppose I can live without a molded tunnel.

I'm slightly unsure which carpet I need? how can I find out if my car was built before or after may 1973?

If like mk3 s meister said the original didnt have a molded tunnel I guess I need the second link.

Do you have the remote type gearchange with the big aluminium housing or rod type gear change?

The floor tunnel where the gearlever comes though is rounded on a remote type change but is more raised and angular on a rod change.

Newtons carpets fit very well. If you want to see how they fit, PM me and I'll mail a picture of a set in my S replica.

Not sure, I'll check it out though...thanks!

Are the newton's as easy to fit as they say?

Thanks

Probably not quite as easy as they say but not too bad either. :?

I had to trim the sill carpets to get a nice fit. The trickiest worst part is getting the gear lever hole cut correctly. Having said that, I didn't have an old carpet to use as a pattern so that made it more difficult.

Take your time when doing it. Measure twice and cut once as they say ;)

The guy at Newton Comercial said I need the later carpet (molded)

But they dont do it in navy in a moulded as its tufted carpet (thicker apparently).

So it's either black & moulded (best fitting) or Navy and unmoulded (prefered colour)

going to  order the unmoulded navy one (as I really want the carpet to match the seats etc).

I suppose the unmoulded one will mould it's self once its glued to the floor plan anyway!

I'll take some pics once fitted!

can anyone recomend any glue?

Thanks

Craig.

A tin of spray glue should do the trick?

The floor carpet sections are not usually glued to the floor.

I always use brushable Evostick to glue the other sections into place.

The moulded carpets come with clips and stud fasteners like the original carpets had so I'd assume the non-moluded ones do as well.
