| Does anyone know if it is possible to change a Final Drive pinion in a remote box after removing the diff but without splitting engine and gearbox?

I took one out of a rod change engine/box a couple of weeks ago that was still complete but only to save the pinion before the lump went for scrap.
It's a case of taking the end cover off, locking it into two gears to lock the mainshaft, bending back the locktab and undoing the mainshaft nut. The diff was out as well.

| I don't know whether you can lock the gears with a remote gearbox.

| If you take out the change speed gate then you should be able to engage two gears at once by manually moving the selector shafts.
