My '68 MkII 998 Cooper came with one of these in the boxes of bits - is this correct? Looks too modern to me...
Bit surprised as the rest of the car is very original. Maybe had a blown matrix at some time and this was fitted?

That is a Mk3 heater.

Your car should have either the metal case type as per most Mk1's or the plastic case type that some Mk2's had. Change over was around September 68, I think.

Hmm - that's what I thought. I don't imagine the metal case type are easy to get, either.

I don't think they're TOO challenging to find, and they can be restored to look like new!  They are not a unique 'Cooper' part after all - the same unit was fitted to all the Mini range so it should be obtainable secondhand.

Glad to hear you've got the car back.  Hope you have fun with it!

Can you point me in the right direction? Been looking for a couple of weeks and haven't found anything.

Which one are you looking for? The metal version appears quite regularly and the plastic from time to time. This ones on at the moment but its nothing to write home about: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MINI-HEATER-BOX_W0QQitemZ140208064574QQihZ004QQcategoryZ43122QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Yes, the metal one - hadn't twigged that this was one, viewed side on!
Thanks for the help,

Roger
