OK I haven't posted for a while so I thought I would show the current state of my restoration, if anyone is interested!
The car is very close to coming back from the body shop and the real work can then start, my garage is bursting with restored parts ready to bolt on.
So I am looking forward to a busy winter in the garage!
If any members coming down to Bournemouth for the weekend are interested in popping in to look I am located in Burley in the New Forest, drop me a line and I would be delighted to see you for a warming cuppa and a chat.

That IS looking good Matt! As you say, a lot of enjoyable work still to do (while trying not to chip the paint off again ).
You are right, all the removed parts take up a LOT of space if stored properly - and if NOT stored well run the risk of becoming damaged...
My Mini is not in as many bits as yours (all trim/brightwork/glass etc. is removed along with many panels but subframes and engine remain intact). I want to carry out the respray myself and have completed much of the panelwork, but will now have to wait until warmer weather due to limited facilities . Plenty to do in the meantime so I won't be bored. I still have some parts to source and must decide if I'm going to remove the engine/gearbox to paint the engine bay as well... I'm not after a perfect car because if I had one of them I'd never have so much enjoyment from DRIVING it . Just a decent looking, smart and rustfree example will be fine - but it is easy to get carried away isn't it and not know when to stop!
Will look forward to seeing your car when finished - Beaulieu 2008 do you think?

Thanks for the kind comments, I am looking forward to the rebuild, as I have had the car a few years now and until this year there has been little progress.
I would love to have the car ready for Beaulieu 2008 as it's the cars and my 40th birthdays! I am not sure I will get it ready for then but I will have a bloody good try.
If there is any local MCR members familiar with the Mk2 S who would like to help get the car ready for the show please please drop me a line, I could do with as much knowledge on board as I can get!

Well the shell is home from the body shop and the rebuild has started!

So I'm guessing the engines had some tuning work done if Bryan Slark was dropping it off

The engine has not really had too much done to it, keeping it as standard as possible. The bottom end has been balanced as has the flywheel, the pistons are new as are the valves, the head has be treated to use unleaded fuel, so apart from a complete rebuild, no major tune up.
The photo was taken the day I went up to Brian's workshop to pick up the finished engine. And what a fantastic bloke he is, still has the same enthusiasm for the mini even after so many years working on them. A true pleasure to deal with.

Looking at the pictures, you are so far ahead that I think I won't make it with mine for Beaulieu...

| Just come up from the garage after a day of drilling out spot welds and grinding, covered in muck and dust I switched on the computer to see your pictures, I"m light years away from that stage but thanks for the inspiration!

| That looks like a 22G333 box to me. The 22G232 laygear was renumbered into 22G1100 (if you want to buy a non-NOS but new one).

Your right there, I have got 22g232 stuck on the mind at the moment!! I have thought about 22g1100 but that will be my last resort as every other internal is nos bmc, I have people from the US to Aus looking for one so as the shell is a long way from looking like Mattd's I will wait and see what shows up. Sorry Mattd if this has highjacked the thread a bit. Keep the pictures coming we need to see what is ahead for us.

Hey no worries guys, it is good to hear that there are others out there following the holy grail like myself!
I still wake up in the middle of the night in a panic that the car will never be finished, it feels good to be bolting things back rather than stock pilling.
i will try and keep the photo's coming, and come on guys lets see how your restorations are going, it make us all feel better that we are not alone!
Also if you guys have any good sources for period parts then please let us know I seem to have exhausted the normal suppliers.
