Since you ask for it, see this old topic for some stories regarding my projects. The Mk II Cooper is now at the body shop and I am working hard to get it carefully sandblasted where needed (well, that's almost everywhere). The engine/box is ready and sitting on a half-completed front subframe. Hopefully, I can make some decent progress during the holidays to get closer to the state of completion yours is in!

Here is (a rather fuzzy) picture of the engine awaiting to join with the body.

A lucky find!  I've seen similar NOS sets sell on ebay for huge sums:shock: so will make do with a reasonable secondhand set that I took out of a Minor 1000.  The trouble is with these belts, that if you wear them tightly enough be any use, you can't reach the switches!  I fitted modern inertia reel belts into my previous 998Mk1 in the end which were more comfortable to use but want a more 'period' look for my 'S'.   The correct period Britax inertia reel belts are hard to find and costly now.

Next installment on the rebuild.

We now have parts attached to the shell and last week the brake, fuel pipes and battery cable went on, just need to get the shell back onto the axle stands and we can fit the subframes!

Matt,

Very nice work, its great when you get to that stage of a resto and you can bolt on all the NOS and restored parts. Nice sized (and tidy) garage as well. Nice one, keep up the good work. ;)

Hi Glen and all

The panel work was done about 10 years ago by Brian Slarks son, the paint was also applied then, I have the car re sprayed, due to a lot of problems in the finish, at a local body shop in the New Forest.

The shell has not been dipped, and the body work was done for the previous owner.

Cheers for the kind comments of encouragement.

I will try to keep posting updates as they happen, fingers crossed for a sub frame fitting at the weekend?

Cheer
Matt

Congratulations Matt,

I am about 1 week behind you with my S, and if it wasn't for an un-expected invite by mother to Italy, would have loved to see yours at Beaulieu. It looks fantastic and at some point I will take a stroll down to Hampshire to see yours in all it's glory (at which point I'll realise what's wrong with mine). Superb effort once again.

Regards, Noel
