Coopermen,
I have a MK1 Cooper boot badge that i want to fit to my cooper, it's the script type and is just the 'cooper' lettering.
it has two pegs on the back which i presume fit through two holes, what sort of fasteners are used in the boot (if any) to hold the badge on?
Many thanks
Gaz

| hi Gaz, it probably needs plastic fasteners that fit into the holes in your boot lid ,then the studs on the badge fit tight into holes in the fasteners. A mk1 morris cooper bonnet badge i have has circlips to hold it in place , although i dont know about the austin cooper bonnet badge , cheers Tim

Hi Gaz, You need a couple of these, this is an original one 13H217. Minispares list it as GFK7514 I presume its the same part You'll need to drill two 4.7mm holes to fit them or 3/16" for us old folk regards Bob

I had the same problem with Austin Cooper S badges, but Andrew helped me a lot reminding that is paramount to use good quality badges instead of those 'made in china' (I've ordered them from uk...). I mean we should use those having recesses around the 'studs', in order to 'receive' the heads of the plastic pins. Alternatively one can apply the badges directly in the boot, fixing them by inside using 'spring-nut' fittings and a good quality compound paste. It's neat.

| Does anyone have a template for the fixing holes for a 'S'?

I would get the badges first, and then make the holes to suit.
My car came part-restored, and was already painted and had the holes drilled, but when i went to put the badge in yesterday, i cracked the badge because the holes were fractionally too close together.
I had to get another badge and ovaled the holes slightly so the badge is not bent, luckily you can't see the slightly larger holes, as the plastic badge retainers cover it up
On this subject, i got a new small s badge from atlantis classics on ebay and it was rubbish, it was as thick as a morris cooper boot badge, and the pins were very thick too

managed to do it!, my badge didn't have the recess for the rubber cups. i stuck masking tape on the boot and put a drop of ink (marker) on the badge pins and put the badge in place to make two dots. i then centre drilled & drilled 3.8mm holes (must have been the cheap badge 'cos the pins weren't even the same size!). with the badge in place i fastened it using 2 grip-clip type washers and put a small drop of aroldite glue to make sure!. there was a very tiny whitness of one of the holes on the 'e' letter so i filled with tiny drop of touch-up paint.
i know it's a bit of a bodge but it looks good and after all, mine is not a MK1 cooper s ! its a rover cooper and incase you're wondering, i havn't put the 'austin' or the 's' badge on!!.
thanks for the great response, pictures and all!.

James, I did the same thing and bought a new small 'S' for my car. The studs don't even line up with the (original) holes in the boot or bonnet !
