An interesting read and a nice car.

Was not aware of this little factoid though

'Now the Mk1 ‘S’ speedo bezel is not like any other Mini whether Mk1, Mk2 or Mk3, not even similar to the Cooper!'

Anyone know the difference ?

Just had a look at my mk1 's' speedo and compared it to an 850 one I bought for the non - rusty bezel. Look the same to me, but he's right about the curved glass on the 's' type, never noticed that before!      bob

Hi Bob,

Thanks for that info - looks like I can rest easy tonight :P

I know that my 1960 850's speedo had the curved glass fitted 'concave' . This is like other silver face speedo's I've got. The later, black face Mk1 speedo's including my S speedo's are fitted the other way around, 'convex'.

Just been going round my garage feeling all my speedo glasses,
and they're all convex, even the silver face one, but i think that's cos i had it apart for cleaning and put the glass back the wrong way.

So should silver face ones be concave?

A lot of the early 850 had speedo glass fitted concave, both my 1959 & 61 Morris cars have the glass fitted that way round, my 1071 has the glass fitted the "normal" way round.

Whether it was deliberate or a mistake I wouldn't like to say, but there are definately more early cars with glass fitted concave than convex.

The bezel on an S speedo is no different to any other MK1 bezel.
