Looks a decent little car, even appears to have the original front panel which is unusual now....

Interesting to see there is no mention of the 'bottom end rumble' that was described in the previous ad. for the blue Mk1 Cooper.....Has it gone away do you think?

It looks such an honest car as opposed to the usual rubbish seen on ebay that I thought it worthy of posting on this thread. However Pete is right it needs a lot of work.

Hi and thanks for the comments on my car chaps ;).

I believe I've described the car honestly and thought the best thing to do would be to include photos of the worst areas of the bodywork so anyone interested knows exactly what they are in for. It does need a lot of work as mentioned above but its not been messed around with or turned into a bogus 'S which is one of the reasons I bought it in the first place myself!

I've had a few people come round to view the car and each time I open the garage door I take one look and want to pack it off to Southam to have it restored . . . . talk about tugging at the old heart strings . . . . !

Er, no!

Apologies to anyone on here who has shown interest or placed a bid on the car but this afternoon we decided to remove it from the auction, I hope this hasn't caused offence or inconvenience to anyone. As the ebay clock has been ticking away this last week or so, we've had a change of heart and decided once and for all to have it restored properly . . . . the interest we've had has taken myself and 'her indoors' by surprise, everytime someone came round to view the car I'd open the garage door, take one look at the oh so cute rear end (the Cooper, not her indoors...) and want to get in and drive the damn thing! So, its off to Rod Taylor and team at Southam within the next couple of weeks for a strip down, examination, rebuild and respray. When it came to the crunch, we admitted that we just couldn't bear to part with it.

I'm now scouring the house for stuff to sell to help pay for the resto !

Congratulations on your decision - I'm sure it's the right one to make.

I keep toying with the idea of selling my 1960 850 as it won't get much use now the S replica is on the road. But when push comes to shove, I'm not sure if I could do it either.

If you're prepared to spend the money, then go for it!  If it is done properly AND rustproofed inside all the box sections etc. afterwards,  it'll last a long time and give years of pleasure.  You know the cars strengths and weaknessnes better than anybody and although it will be an expensive excercise these cars are not going down in value are they.  It sounds as if it's already in good mechanical condition.

Let us know how it progresses!  It'll be great to hear of another one back on the road!

Thanks for the encouragement, its much appreciated. Just need to confirm a date for next week and it'll be on a trailor heading for Messrs Taylor in their new premises, good news is that they are in the process of aquiring more space to take on more work ;)

After years of it being El Paso Biege (its original colour back in '69) we fancy a change, Mrs. UWD 672G fancies Tartan Red / Black but I'm partial to Snowberry White / Black . . . plenty of time to decide though. A while back I toyed with the idea of it becoming a Radford / W&P 'lookalike' in plain black or Rolls Royce regal red but we'll probably go down the 'factory finish with period extras' route.

I don't blame you for thinking about a colour change, and at least with a Mk2 you don't have the worry of choosing a colour to go with your interior.  Colours are a matter of personal taste of course but El Paso Beige is about my least favorite.  I would personally stick with an original colour but beyond that - go for which you like most.  Tartan Red does look great on a Mini but SO many are now red!  My previous one was red and I found it hard to maintain the colour.  It was rather inclined to fade in the sun and then 'spot' in the rain.  Also it can be more tricky to match than some.  Having said that modern paints are less likely to fade I think.  They do look good in Snowberry white - much better I think than the Mk3 Glacier White.  I also think white is actually much more practical and easier to keep clean than some of the darker colours.

Well, we've made the decision now and we're sticking with it, I know it won't be cheap to restore (though probably not as much as my P5B will eventually) but we're going to keep it once its done and enjoy it to the full. I'm under no illusions about 'getting my money back' but in a funny way its paid me back ten times over by the amount of smiles per mile it gave when it was my everyday transport - the look on some folks faces as we flew past them on dual carriageways is priceless ;). As regards colour . . . . definitely a personal thing, UWD' was El Paso when it left Longbridge in Feb '69, metallic black in the '70s, Almond Green / White after that then went back to El Paso when it was restored in the '90s. People keep telling me there are too many red Coopers about but apart from seeing them at shows I don't recall seeing any on the road whilst pootling about in mine! The choice of wheels might have some bearing on the eventual colour though, I'm tempted to go with Dunlop 'D1' replicas at the moment, which would go well with Snowberry White / Black . . . . but don't tell the missus. Our previous Mk1s and 2s have been Island Blue, Almond Green and a mucky shade of maroon so we fancy a change ;). Cheers, Nidge.

You're right Nidge,  you cannot put a price on the fun you'll have from the car on the road again and its restoration will cost a LOT less than a P5B!

A too think the Dunlop type wheels look fantastic on a Mini and I may get a set for my Mk1 which will be Old English White.  I think the lighter coloured cars are enhanced by wheels with a bit of black.  I've had the same debate as you over what colour to spray my car.  I do want to stick with an original shade for a late Mk1, want a change from red this time and don't care much for Almond Green.  Old English White is no.1 on the list.

I haven't investigated yet but I'm not sure if the Dunlop type wheels are/were made with the correct offset for the 'S' brakes and I don't want to fit arches.  I currently have the original 41/2" 'S' rims with 145/10s and the bodywork only just covers them so I don't want to go any wider.
