| first 1275 S had dry suspension up to sometime around october 1964 ,but ... the speedo should only go up to 120mph . the carbs don't look like the correct 146R &146L,they look like MK3 carbs Or 1300GT carbs.the starter selenoid is on the right position .front lower valance panel ,sunvisors and review mirror are post 1965.the window pushes are pre 1963 ,looks like it traveled thru time a litle. Not sure I totally agree.130mph speedo, later front valence with cutouts, bigger crushable sunvisors and white rear view mirror all correct for a Dec 1964 car. I'll hang the anorak up now !Last edited on Wednesday January 30th, 2008 10:01 pm by android |

No doubt it's one of those rare early Minis that had all the later features attached like a drivers air-bag?

I like the way the green "1971 Cooper S" is described as "original" !

And an early catalytic converter
The buyer will probably think that this 71 Mini was way ahead of its time !
The number is on DVLA's computer but has no export marker
And yes, it is original.....for a 1998 car

Hi All
I'm a new member. I bought the '1962 cooper' OAS 6** mentioned on this topic back in Oct 07 and August 06. Its a nice car, but I have a little 'book learning' knowledge of minis and I can see that its originality is seriously in question. I've just shipped it from Hertfordshire over here to California and am in the process of trying to establish exactly what it is.
Sometimes 'too good to be true' is exactly that. Nevertheless, it seems to run great, looks OK and I'm looking forward to enjoying it for what it is. The previous owner was honest enough in describing improvements such as the 1275 engine, early 1970s gearbox, 7.5 inch front discs etc. I don't rule out the slim possibility of it being original, but let's just say I think its unlikely.
Pointers to non-originality I've found so far;
1. No boot board brackets, or indeed boot board
2. No body number on the front panel
3. A VIN plate which appears to have been remade
4. Blue interior seems to be wrong
5. Obviously after market wheels, wheel arches and steering wheel.
6. No over riders or corner bars.
More pictures to follow at some point!! I look forward to swapping info with all of you out there.

Welcome Clackent (thought it was Clark Kent ?) Lovely colour Smoke Grey isn't it ?
I'd look at it in terms of a modified Mk1 Mini and enjoy it for what it is as you say, or you could sink some money into it and put the Cooper (Newton ) interior , 997 engine and boot detail etc back into the car (if in fact it was ever on that car ! ), but at least you can take the arches off if you wanted as the fixing holes are concealed luckily.

Hi Clackent, as you say enjoy it for what it is, at least in your environment it should not deteriorate like they do over here. You have come to the right place to ask questions if you need pointers as to what is right, but we even can be stuck for definate anwsers for some of BMC's strange practices even with years worth of playing with them. The arches are a crime though GrayLast edited on Saturday February 9th, 2008 08:38 pm by Gray |

I agree, it does look cheap (at the moment) for the level of work already done.
I do think people would be put off by the logistics and general difficulties of moving a car with no subframes which cannot be moved easily onto a trailer or similar. If the seller could do it, it would be much more sensible to at least get it 'rolling'.
Still, perhaps it will be a rare ebay bargain for somebody.......

This has been on E-bay before, from the same seller, I asked if it had been re-shelled and had a reply along the lines of 'no its been made to look like a MK1', it still looks looks like a MK1 shell with a MK2 Cooper id to me , has anyone seen it in the metal?
