The answer is simple.....collecting them is far more interesting than collecting shoes or handbags  :D:D:D I suppose it is like someone having a passion for work by a particular artist.

Sal wrote: I haven't seen the car yet, but the person who sold me my other two Supers has !!!! She also sent me the pics and a running commentary about what she thought were the good and bad points about this car. It is on her doorstep, you see, and I trust her implicitly. I also got her "Mini Guru" take a look and advise me too. This is not the fist time I have bought a Super without seeing it first. When I bought "Joe" he had a terrible paint job, but this had been described in a more than honest way so I wasn't exactly in a state of shock when I saw it !!!!

What pleases me about this one is that everything is there. The interior is the best brocade inerior that Julie has ever seen. The funny thing is that with each Super that I buy, the interiors just get better !

For me the attraction is that the Super is a beautiful car, with all the MK1 Cooper trappings apart from the engine, of course, and I can buy that car at less than a MK1 Cooper price, which suits me (and probably Him Indoors and my financial advisor !) fine. Only people on the Mini scene seem to know what they are...go to a classic car show and it is just another old Mini. I must say I found one exception at a classic car show when I got my first Super....I met a guy who used to turn Supers into Coopers as a business back in the sixties and he knew what my car was.

Yes I agree with that, there should be a register here for the Super at least as it's far more important than any BMW wearing a false name.

I don't think anyone has mentioned it, but is that not the same 9,000 mile Mk1 'S' that was on ebay earlier this year which is currently for sale on the MCR site?

Hi,

That crossed my mind when I read it. Presumably the vendor doesn't read for Forum or hoped that everyone had forgotten about it!

Err how can you forget something like that ? Funnily enough it cropped up in a conversation I had with Gary Dickens about my new Super last month !

I think you'll find that the '9000 mile Mk1 S' with the 'identity crisis' was sent off to be advertised in the mag at the same time it was put up on Ebay. Obviously the mag comes out a few weeks later. Wonder if any poor bugger fell for it in the end ?

Oh dear :? ..........."lovely and original" ?!

Ebay seems to attract loonies, but at least he's left out the usual "rare piece of British motoring heritage" strap line that many sellers use, or "grab a bargain" .

How about  :  "rare collection mismatching mini parts nailed onto a later shell" , or     " grab a bitza" !  :D

Hmmmm.... Island Blue, 1963, 1275, that's original.....not! :?

Like the 7.5 gallon l/h and Serck r/h tank! I see they've decided not to refit the boot board brackets, too awkward to get the tanks in and out;)

I wonder what the 'realistic' price is for this lovely original Cooper!!!

Just noticed the bonnet badge arrangement - slight mistake there!:D

Hi Guys,

It has that beautiful walnut dash that all the '63 S's had. That wood must have cost a fortune to be redone.

Hi Andrew,

By '64 the rot had set in to BMC and they fitted a cheap plastic black oval housing. I have a spare one that I would swap for an S crankshaft, if you need one! hahaha

I've seen a few pictures of cars in period, race cars as I remember, with that inverted bonnet badge arrangement,  I quite like it !

Twelve and half gallons full up, phew that's gonna hurt the wallet, specially if you park it on a high kerb !  :?   :P

BTW Al, thanks for hooking me up with my ex pat chum over there, we're now in touch.  :) Cheap holidays here we come ....:P

Hi Glen,

Even so, I don't blame him for not swapping it for a T reg VW Polo (see question)!!!!!!

The real bizarre thing eBay is that up until yesterday the one below failed to attract any bidding

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=270011265733&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=017

Looks like people like bidding on dodgy cars but not superb pucker Coopers !!?? :?

Yup, I know the car, very nice too.

Don't think the seller did himself any favours by missing the word 'Mini' out of his description though !
