Hey Al,
Why not join the Mini Cooper Register and write the odd article about your Coopering experiences down in NZ, make all us poms jealous about those wide open roads !

Back to Ebay.... yawn....., I buy very few Mini related items on there, usually music and such. I've noticed a couple of rare records hawked around ebay , where the bidding has looked somewhat suspect, and the final price has been 'manipulated' to an unrealistically high level....usually another associate of the seller bidding the item up, or even the seller him/herself ! Shocking eh ? Er...no not really.
At the end of the day 'buyer beware' should be the rule of thumb, a large percentage of these numpties actually bid without even seing the car in the flesh , let alone seek advice from .....er...here ! They only have themselves to blame.
It's to be noted that the seller on this occasion hasn't been answering or including any questions. Pity, great opportunity missed to entertain us all even more....
Hey Andrew, I joined in ' 88 too , seems like yesterday.

Well it's a nice enough looking repro chassis plate. the digits on the originals were very cleanly stamped, something that's oft overlooked, it's facing the wrong way though.
Spoke to the vendor today,(well it'd be rude not to... ), and put him in the picture. He seemed genuinely clueless, or certainly portrayed himself very much that way, though was still convinced the car was right. He reckoned the seat belts were fitted after market as it was manufactured without 'em , and it had never been hydro, well cos they weren't ..! On the same day a very tasty looking Mk 3 'S' ( and probably a right 'un !) tops out at £6000 .... ?!

Hi Al,
So you've got 'The Bible' for Cooper owners then. It's a top class book and a must for anyone restoring a car 'properly' - perhaps the owner of 'The most original low mileage Cooper S in the UK' should have bought and digested it before doing the 'minor' restoration work!!!
Hi Glen,
1988 to 2006 - as you say where has it gone?!!
You are pretty much spot on with eBay - buyer beware is right!! I sell more more than I buy, basically because I can't match the ridiculous prices people seem to be prepared to pay for Mini parts. I always accurately describe my items, will alwas answer emails and dont rip people off with high postage prices - that REALLY p****s me off!! Do they not stop to think that they won't attract anywhere near as good a auction price if they charge extortionate P&P rates!!
Do you ever wonder at all the Cooper S parts on eBay and very little 'ordinary' Mk1/2 parts offered. Great if you are restoring a Cooper S but to try to restore an ordinary Mini, the parts just aren't available!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Back to the S on eBay - according to the Bible (see above) the seat belt fixing was lowered in June 63, so I guess the shell must pre-date June '63 and may explain why its not Hydrolastic. Maybe it's a log-book rebuild......that would be a first wouldn't it......Not!!!!!!
Watch out for a small feature in April's MCR mag on the conversion back to Hydrolastic from dry that I recently did to my Mk2 998 Cooper!
All the best
Andrew

Hi Glen,
I've just joined that MCR. You can blame Andrew, he threatened to confiscate my car and turn it into a Trabant if I didn't.
I'm looking forward to reading your article Andrew.

Al

Hi Guys. I thought I would have a bid on this little mini just to see where it finally gets to. Thanks to everyone who tried to put me straight with these warnings
Be aware the 9000 mile cooper s you are bidding on is not on its original shell. The original colour of the shell was green.
I've got a very similar car to that 'S', (that's actually in the right body shell !) , that I'm going to sell soon.
Let me know if you're interested.
Hi Firthy, thought you might be interested there is a lot of talk
about this min on the cooper register forum, not all of it good!
http://www.minicooper.org
It certainly is "original"

Hi Firthy,
I'm glad you had a look at our conversation on the Forum, and your comments clarify our thoughts on it. If it reaches the reserve, someone is going to be VERY dissapointed (both the seller and the buyer, I suspect!!). It's 'original' but not 'original' as we know it!!!!!???
regards
Andrew

Hi guys,
I can see why those '59 Cooper's are very collectable. My '66 obviously suffers from BMC belt tightening as it has none of those fancy bits this '59 has. Grrrrrrrrrr, I wish I had bought this one !

Hi Al,
That was a really good price (would have made £200+ on eBay) - pity it didn't finish before the one that I bought. But I'm happy enough (as long as it's ok) as I've got some good prices for some of my spares over the last few days.
It is a very nice car but it's definately NOT a 59 or 64 (or 94 come to that). Road tax evasion at it's best, I think

Hi Andrew,
How can I find what you're selling on e-Bay? There might be things I could use.
