Many also try with parts.
This ad starts somewhat correctly, but ends with a suspicions story which suggests that the seller knows more than he wants to tell us.

By the way, 22G382 is a 3-synchro magic wand casing for Mini/Elf/Hornet 850/998.

Hi folks,
The reshell thing doesn't just happen to Coopers and S's !

It was me that asked the 1st question and didn't get a very convincing answer! I couldn't see from the photos if it had a ribbed roof but I guessed it had. All in all I reckon the '1961 Minivan' could be 20 years newer! Who'd have thought the RAC would be involved in car ringing! Perhaps any potential new owner should ask for an RAC inspection before he buys

Better still, get the AA to do it. They'd love the chance to get one over on the opposition
I notice it's got the door card in upside down - how often do you see that on 'lovingly' restored eBay cars?!
I'd suspect it's at least about a '77 onwards going by the pedals. I wonder what goodies are under the bonnet?

| It's described by the DVLA as a Morris ½ ton van registered 27/5/61. If I remember correctly a Morris ½ ton isn't even a Mini Van!

1/2 ton van's were A55 or A60's I think !!
I couldn't get the details up on the DVLA vehicle enquiry

You're right, Mini van was 1/4ton, Minor van was 5cwt in those days (later on were 6cwt then 8cwt) so yes 1/2ton probably was the A55 type or even J2 or similar!
A reshell should mean swapping all the original fittings over onto the replacement shell, not finding an old logbook and mating it with a complete later vehicle! That is car ringing and a completely different matter.

Spot on there but some people seem to find this a little difficult to understand

Yes Taffy but even with half his body missing he is more complete and original than the "1961 Minivan" offered with him!

Better not let your son see it or it might end up in your display case with his Dalek and you might end up with a genuine RAC Mini Van

Oh no! Could this be another one... (ebay ref: 140113852959 - sorry not clever enough to do the link..)
Don't assume that because a Cooper has been in a barn for years that it MUST be the real thing... It MAY be but not much Cooper interior OR exterior trim on this one, also no black vinyl dash covering on top/bottom rails AND that white switch panel again! No photos to show inside boot or bonnet....
Re-shelling is nothing new of course, BMC themselves were doing it all the time with the 'works cars'.....and even if you buy a car from a dry climate abroad don't assume the lack of rusting over there will mean an original shell. Shells were often changed after accidents and Coopers were a bit prone to accidents in their early years...

"Car seems complete, except for carpets & seems totally original."

Note clever use of the word "seems".
(Or am I just a cynic)...
I like the "no more timewasters" line - probably been a few people asking too many questions
It doesn't apply in this case but my favorite line in similar ads is always:
"Heritage certificate to prove authenticity"...... Oh, thats fine then.....

I particularly like the black brocade on black front seats :-)

They're not another set of "Mick Jagger's seats" are they? weren't they black?
That should add quite a bit to its value!

| The pudding stirrer gear lever blanking plate looks suspicious being a different colour.

Yes, I thought that too! Perhaps we ought to organise a minibus outing to go and look at it Maybe take in the sights of the RAC van too? plus any other doubtfuls that appear in the meantime.....
Oh no, I forgot. "No more timewasters"!
