That car is truly shocking yet it has been bid to US$17800 - it's unbelievable.

You know how to save yourselves from all these cloned V5 Mk1 S's? End your sleepless nights wondering whether the DVLA are crunching their way up your drives?

Set yourselves free and buy a 10" 1275 GT! Bolt on a pair of HS4s on a decent head. Slot a cam through the radiator grille, stick a maniflow LCB and RC40 on.... Instant 70's cool. And no one gives a flying 'F' that you've got the wrong screw holding on the rear opening window. You get 4 synchro gears, windie windows, a rev counter, the s brakes, heated back window and so much more. hell it's even got reclining seats. It'll be decently quick kicking out more than a standard S. It'll be cheep to maintain - and after all - most folk think the 70's GT was the fastest mini anyway. (Obviously it wasn't - but hey - go with the misinformation)

I've had over 20 plus Mk1 coopers/S - many of dubious pedegree. No doubt I'll get more. But at least i can now venture out on the streets without fear of running into my clone or nose picking screw counters.

Cullop, been there, done that.....

My former Clubby 1380...

My present "Clubby" Estate metal flip front...

 started life as...

Most Minis are Mr Potato Heads to add to/change as you please. But my recently acquired 64 1071S needs to be brought back. The costs of doing it kind of demand a more pure resto.

I posted the abortion from ebay as it was being pawned off as a "restoration" It may be a fine car and suit someone's needs/desires perfectly, but it takes a lot of balls to make the claims that vendor is making. Oh Well, "A fool & his money...."

You'll find such claims are particularly prevelant on Ebay, hence the inspiration for setting up this thread . It's not so much a matter of criticising others cars, more so to point out the outrageous misdescriptions and so hopefully save punters from buying complete lemons which I'm sure  we have done already. It's been nice ( albeit rarely) to point out the really good  cars on here to.

The Americans really do seem to have a different take on all of this, though I think they are becoming more interested in authenticity. My own Mk1 Cooper 'S' for example I re imported from San Francisco as a tired but running  RHD car, very complete and original with a heap of period extras on. I bought it for the same kind of money I'd have paid for it over here ( Couldn't find an unmolested car over here though) but nobody over there was interested. Strange innit ?

Nice GT Collup ;).

Looks a nice example but can't work out why anyone would want to paint or leave the engine bay Surf Blue when the rest of the car is so nice:?

Simon, I'll have a look for the figures but I wouldn't have thought there'll be much change from £2000 to get that car back here including shipping, landing fees, taxes, Vat, road transport, insurance etc.

The engine bay colour is rather odd, I'm guessing it had an external repaint to Surf and back again only the last time the engine stayed put ! The speedo's been changed to MPH so the mileage quoted can't be relied on, the seat wear, front panel and boot lid change suggest much higher mileage. Interesting to note the radiator / thermostat arrangement on this car.

Apparently it's the rad and thermostat housing from a later Canadian Mini that had an air pump !

You learn something new every day :P.

The one in the US looks a bit to fresh for my own personal taste.

I like the more unusual Minis such as those produced in South Africa, Spain and Australia - its nice to see a variation on a theme.

Look at this folks, looks like an honest guy with a truthful description, and for the untrained eye, not a bad replica either!

Now that's what I call a replica:D

Be interesting to see what it makes as it'll give me some idea what to value mine at in a few weeks when it's time to hit the road!

Hi Gray,

I guess you are right. Maybe it'll depend on whether people like the colour of my car . Pictures will have to be posted on here when it's finished I suppose - I know Glen Ponder will :D

C'mon Andrew let's have a butchers then !

I'm thinking your car will be a proper job, that green one's a got a dead early shell,  GT engine, more of a 'look a like' really and actually I've not seen it but severely doubt the legend of it having "stunning detail "  !

"In fact, if Paddy Hopkirk were to see this, it would bring a tear to his eye !! "

The car or the Ebay ad ? :P

Can't you tell he's a car dealer ?!  :D

Hi Glen,

I'll see what I can do although it's not really complete enough yet to be exposed on here for all the see and comment!:D But it will be nicer than the green one. I'm still hoping to get it done and take it to Beaulieu.

At least the green one is a damn sight closer to being a replica than some of the others on eBay though !

Andrew
