Yes but other than the Italian Job the only MK1 on a G plate that I have seen in my 53 years was an E-Bay car local to me. It was a 66 shell, original number gone and he claimed to have a heritage certificate showing a 59 build date. It was a basket case anyway. Steve.

I've seen two. One was an Old English White Mini Minor and the other a Maroon B Austin Mini. Both were saloons and we're going back to the seventies now.

I had an Austin Mini - RYA602F which was registered in mid 1968 by Vincents of Yeovil. When the mark 2 Mini turned up there must a have been a few Mark 1's that simply hung around for a year.

I'm sure there's been plenty of Mk1's on a G registration, I've seen a few myself. My own Mk1 was registered nearly two years after it was built,  but the point I'm making  (I'm losing the will to live here..) is that car's a bloomin' Mk2 !

Have another butchers..

Hi Guys,

If this helps, the vendor confirms this has been re-shelled into a 69 Shell..

(As you know I'm still looking for a Cooper, and made a few enquiries......)

 MA2S6S6

 12V923EHZ

Above are the start numbers for the chassis and engine.

On that basis what do you think?

Cheers

Stuart

On that basis I would steer well clear. M-A2S6 is a standard Morris Mini Mk 2 chassis number prefix, not Cooper or S.

I thought 12V was an inline 1275cc A series engine prefix from a Midget or the like?

Your correct. 12V is a post 1970 in-line engine. Could be anything, as obviously needs a mini crank for its current application.

Guys, Thanks for your responses!

Won't be touching this with two of my longest barge poles stuck together!!!

I dread to think what this guys' reserve is!!

It's advertised on page 124  of Novembers' "Mini" Magazine at £14,000!!

Hope whoever has that sort of cash to splash does their research first!!!!,

Cheers

Yup, he's sunk a fortune into a Mk1 Cooper S replica using the wrong bloomin shell to start with, and now wants his money back by advertising the car as genuine. Dream on sunshine......:P

Another rogue to add to the list.

Next !

Once again thanks to everyone for their responses, without wanting to be condescending this really is THE top place for Mini Cooper tips, advice and son on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Almond Green Mark II is now at the top of my list!!

Hope I don't uncover too many nightmares...its only 50 miles away so I will get to see it this week......

Wish my luck and if you can send me any more tips and advice.......

This looks like the best so far if I'm going to get a true Cooper if not, the it's back to the drawing board, or up to Mr Ponder's Blue lookalike!

Cheers

Hope the Almond green car works out Stuart, I've got a good feeling about that car.

As for the two resto projects, you'd have to take your brain out before you restored a Mk2 998 (contraversial ! ) . Either of those two would cost a bomb to do ,the same as doing a Mk1 near enough , and be worth £4500 tops after you'd emptied your wallet. A guy near me did that last year and this year he sold the car 80% complete  , virtually done , just needed a top coat due to poor finish, only glass and trim putting in to complete. He really struggled to get £1800 for it after three goes on Ebay ! :?

All restos cost money, but worth bearing in mind.

Must admit undertaking a Restoration job is not my bag at all, Mechanicals I can cope with body work scares the living daylights out of me!!!

Interestingly enough the guy with the Blue Cooper Hybrid on Ebay has informed me that he has a '66 S thats been to the States and back but has "Heritage papers".

My curiosity is running wild so I will find out more!!!!

Just booking a day off this week to check the Almond Green Cooper out..

Watch this space!

It really depends on your skills and how complete the car is (and how mad you are :P) If the Mk1 had its correct, original trim then a Mk2 would cost about the same but if you have to obtain trim, then a Mk2 must be cheaper to build. Body and mechanical wise much the same obviously. Sending a Mk2 to a professional restorer is certainly not viable but if you can do the work yourself and don't take into account your time, and you want to keep the car, then it could be. Is it really viable to have any Cooper or S professionaly restored if your intention is to sell and try to make a reasonable profit. A Mk1 S might just scrape in though.
