When there's little on TV and the kids are tucked up I sometimes find myself browsing the cars on Ebay, well it can be entertaining .
Found this one recently.......... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4612397430&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1
Now just for fun ,can anyone spot the obvious hiccups with this particular car described as one of 'the most original in the UK ! ', and displaying a substantial reserve.
There have been so many spurious Mk 1 'S's on Ebay over the years , it's laughable, but to be expected I suppose bearing in mind the values of such vehicles. I agree with Simon Wheatcroft that the Mk 3 S offers much better value, in fact there's a very nice looking example on Ebay right now which I doubt will fetch much more than half the figure for the Mk 1, and is much less likely to be a flat pack !

Well I wouldn't be too concerned about carpets,or silly wood dash and trim looks correct.......but I wouldn't want seat belts to be mounted that high up on one of 'the most original cars in the UK !', not on a late '64 anyway !
Bah..now I've ruined the fun... .... anybody spot any more hiccups, like where's the courtesy light switches gone .. ?!
MMmmmmm indeed.....and yours for a snip.... at over twelve grand !

Hi Glen,
Should the inside light switch toggle be at the front or back? Mine points rearward.
Regards
Al
(Ooooops, just looked and it is to the front!) AlLast edited on Tuesday February 14th, 2006 06:32 pm by Alasdair Brass |

What about the car number tag being held with sheet metal screws, is that correct?
Non Lucas regulator in odd place
Non Mowog paint on block nd head
Later model washer bottle with large screw cap

See , told you this could be fun .
I reckon when they built this car in December '64 they just used up some spare dry supension set ups that were lying around the factory, no really !!
Then they decided to paint the rear companion boxes black coz they had some spare black paint that needed using ..!
Then they decided to fill the holes for the swivel round visors found in the cant rail, as a special order ........ !and raise the seat belt mounts by a few inches...well coz it was a slow day at work... !
Aaahhh...stop berfore I get out me cheque book ....!!

Glad I'm not the only one to pick up on this allegedly original & superb S !!!
How about standard brake master cylinder, 'nut top' clutch master cylinder. Looks like the servo is incorrectly positioned and nice shaped brake pipes!!!. How could the original steel wheels be so 'poor' after only 9000 miles and the rest of the car has had only 'little cosmetic restoration'??!! Surely the check straps should be red ? Can't make up my mind whether the loom is tatty braiding or PVC tape?!
OK - the car looks nice at first glance but then a 2 pack paint job always does. Makes you wonder what the body is really like with all these mechanical/trim inconsistencies. Best one must be the lack of Hydrolastic suspension though!!
As for the price.......someone must know the reserve and I bet it won't reach it!!!!!

I see it's up to £13000.00 (reserve not met). Do these bidders know what they are looking and bidding for ??!!

Now at £13,000 and reserve still not met, laugh...?!!
I doubt the new owner (if it actually finds one...) will be laughing when they find out they've bought ' Probably the most original Cooper S in the UK ' with a '61 shell !

Hi Al,
Perhaps he was misinformed by the previous owner. No sign or mention of any documentation or service history to back up the claim!!?
I suspect this auction may get some coverage in a future MCR mag!!

Hi Al,
Yes, the MCR mag is good.
I've been a member for about 18 years now and it's the best Mini club mag that I have come across, providing your obsession are Coopers of course!
