Wow! it is begining to look like a car
I used some good S/H door rubbers, and had to bend the flange that the rubber sits on quite a bit in places, but the doors sit nice and flush and shut with a satisfying "click-clack"
Whilst on the subject of things 970, how many other genuine factory 970S's are there arround?
I heard somewhere that there were only 6 known in the UK
Can this really be true?
Looking good James
Keep us all up to date with the progress.

Well done Mark
And welcome to the 970S clan
Have you registered it with JK? And is it a new car to the 970 tally,or has it been "known" by the register for a while?
Wet or dry? A or M ? Restoration plans?
Regards,James.

Hi, mine is an Austin with wet suspension.
Its currently having new cills and front floor pans installed.
It has had alot of new panels fitted( front wings, bonnet, boot front panel, so whether it can be classified as totally original is debatable, but its mine and I love it!.
I have duly registered online, and have the requisite membership fot myself and the wife( sorry BMW mini).

Mine has had a whole new front,so don't apologise for some new metal!
There are no totally original coopers left in the world,as they all would have had some parts replaced.
So just restore it as best you can,and love it!
James.

That sounds great,
do you have any photos (new or old) that you could post on the forum?

My ownership papers (similar to V5) have "key FS949" stamped on them,
So i went and got a 949 from a guy with a collection of old keys(a 948 won't fit cos the cam lobes get stuck in the lock mechanism)
And lo and behold,it fits the ignition, and door of the car! Nice
BTW should it be a Wilmot Breeden,or a C E Marshall?
He had both.
James.

| Most UK cars, up to 2001, were Wilmot Breedon. Others manufacturers were however listed as alternatives.

hi folks this is a first posting for me , so i hope all goes well.i,ve been reading with intrest your 970 disscussions and i wish i was part of the 970 clan but alas not, they are quite unique and i admire your passion for the survivors. What i found a bit odd with the lists of cars was the lack of Almond green cars, as unlike the 1071 and 1275 "S" which both had Tarten Red as the most popular colour, on 970 "S" almond green had the highest total with 30.9 % , 299 cars , maybe the green paint didnt fend off the rust to well. Come to think of it my first mini at the age of 17 was green and that was a rust bucket! At the other end of the 970 scale with 4.2 % 41 cars, everyones favorite, Fiesta Yellow oh well useless information ?

John Kelly says there are 87 cars known to the register,
Not sure how many are almond green,or tartan red ,but there are only 5 in smurf blue.
Not sure about feisty yellow, but he says there is one that has just been discovered in this lovely shade
