After the success of last years event once again I'm planning a large Mini Cooper Register presence at the famous Gold Cup historic race weekend at Oulton Park Cheshire on Bank Holiday Monday August 27th

Expect a full HSCC historic race card including saloons in which several club members are set to compete.

There will also be a rally stage featuring many of the famous group B rally cars in action.

For those who haven't been before there's lots to see and do, there's plenty to do for the kids too with amusements , fair ground rides and stalls laid on. For the spectator great vantage points all round the picturesque Oulton Park Circuit and open access to the pit area to drool over some exotic race cars . Camping is also available at the circuit over the weekend for those who wish to attend on the Sunday.

Free admission (including one passenger) is available to MCR members who wish to display their car though space will be limited so please register your interest early by emailing me at morris1275@aol.com

Entries confirmed so far include quite a number of Mk1 Cooper S's, including Radford and a couple of freshly restored examples making their debut, several Mk2's, no Mk3's yet , a GT, several works rally and race replicas and I'm hoping for a couple of works cars too, so if you're interested in attending this event don't hang about !Last edited on Monday July 9th, 2007 07:08 pm by Glen Ponder |

| I am so, so upset I cannot go and hope that lots and lots and lots of members will support the MCR display at Oulton Park next week. Pete has worked hard to put together an impressive turnout. Only one week to go, I went up from London last year and it was worth the journey. Please support the event next week.

Classic racing and rallying for August Bank Holiday
Fastest-ever rally cars to feature at Oulton Park
This August Bank Holiday, hundreds of classic cars will be heading to Oulton Park to take part in the annual Gold Cup - the North's premier event for historic motorsport.
A showcase for some of Britain's best historic racing, the Gold Cup features competition from classic saloons and sports cars dating back as far as the 1950s along with a line-up of outrageous F5000 and Grand Prix cars from the 1970s. Complete with wide slicks and big rear wings, these classic single seaters will be complemented by 1960s Sports and GTs racers such as the iconic E Type Jaguar, AC Cobra, Shelby Mustang, Ford GT40 and many more, all of which will be rolling back the years and racing flat-out for top honours.
There will also be a special demonstration performed during the lunchbreak on Bank Holiday Monday, when racing legend Derek Bell will take to the circuit in the spectacular Bentley Speed 8 that took overall victory in the 24 hour Le Mans race in 2003.
It's not just circuit racing that takes place at the event though as Group B rally cars - some of the fastest machines ever to compete in the World Rally Championship - will be spitting flames as these turbo-charged monsters show what they can do on Oulton Park's purpose-built Rally Stage.
Group B introduced four-wheel drive to the sport with turbo-charged engines that were almost twice as powerful as todays World Rally championship contenders and the formula was ultimately banned from competition for being too fast!
Last year, no less than five former World Championship winning cars were in action at the Gold Cup, including Carlos Sainz's 1992 Toyota Celica and Didier Auriol's 1990 Martini Lancia Delta Integrale, as well as Malcolm Wilson's Austin Rover Metro 6R4 which competed in the last ever WRC event run to full Group B regulations.
One of the fastest machines was the Audi Quattro that Michele Mouton took to a record-breaking victory in the legendary Pikes Peak hill climb in 1985. After they proved to be one of the highlights of the event last year, organisers predicting twice as many entries in 2007!
Tickets for the Gold Cup cost £15 per day for both Sunday 26 and Monday 27 August when booked online via the link below with children aged 12 and under admitted free.
Car Clubs interested in forming displays at this event are encouraged to contact the Oulton Park circuit office on 01829 760301 for further details.
