The Cheshire region of the Mini Cooper Register will be organising a club display at the Oulton Park Gold Cup on bank holiday Monday August 28th.
This will be the second day of the famous Gold Cup historic race weekend , and the HSCC race card will look something like this.....
http://www.hscc.org.uk/Oulton%20Park%20Gold%20Cup%202006.htm

Several MCR members are set to take part in the race for historic saloons in their Mini Coopers. There will also be a rally stage this year centred around group B cars and it has been suggested some of our members will be asked to take part in demonstration runs.
Due to the size of the stand complementary tickets have not been offered but a reduced entry fee for the day has been set at £12 per person and space has been allowed for 25 cars plus the works bus. Members interested in coming along and displaying their car can contact me at flan1275@aol.com
Once our ticket allocation has been filled tickets will be available from Motorsport Vision at http://www.motorsportvision.co.uk/events/event-details.asp?ProductID=1460.
For those who haven't been before there's plenty to do for the kids with amusements and stalls laid on, and for the spectator good vantage points all round the picturesque Oulton Park Circuit ( am I selling this well enough ? ) and lots of parking close to the track.Camping is also available at the circuit .

STOP PRESS.....
At the eleventh hour I have just been informed, ( having been lead a merry dance up the garden path !) , that all drivers of MCR club cars will get a FREE pass , only the passenger(s) if over 12 years old will have to pay admission. (£16 advance or £21! at the gate)
Sorry for any confusion folks but there's still time to get one of the last free passes for any MCR member wishing to display their car.

More info on the group B rally cars. Apparently twenty of these monsters will be going through the stage , leaving no room for Mini Coopers.
Now they tell me ?!

So how did it go? Did you miss the bad weather? Any winners for the Minis?

We had a great day dispite the 'inclement', a few strong showers in the morning (perfect for the Minis to do their qualifying ! ), and then a nice bright afternoon.
As for the Saloon race Colin Flynn retired early with an overheating engine, Barry Long made a cracking start and kept us entertained throughout the race and the impressive Roger Ebdon (below) lead the field in the early laps but couldn't hold off the seasoned BMW 2002 of Les Ely or the Anglia of Bullen but was easily the quickest Mini.
Opening lap of the HSCC Saloon race viewed from the MCR stand..

As for the MCR club stand, well I think we did a good job. No bus I'm afraid due to mechanical problems, but a good spread of interesting cars. There'll be a report in the next mag, but here's a few pics.
