The subject of the Beatles Minis is something I've been interested in for a few years now and I'm slowly accumulating some clippings, photos, info etc so I was wondering if anyone else on here is intersted in them or can point me in the direction of anything to do with these elusive little machines . . . . .
Apart from Ringo's well known Hooper Hatchback and George's psychedelic Cooper S they seldom seem to feature in magazines / books etc, although there was a short newspaper article on Pauls '65 Radford Cooper S a while back. I have a few fuzzy shots of Georges car from when it appeared at Goodwood several years ago (plus a few off the internet) but haven't seen anything of it since - does anyone have any info on it (I know it was restored at some point) and is there any chance it might resurface at a future MCR show . . . . . ?
Any help gratefully received ta!
cheers
Nidge

Well there is this useful site here:-

http://www.minispace.co.uk/beatles/index.htm
But it stops you saving the actual images, but one way around that is to use the "Pring Screen" button on your keyboard when you have the image on your screen, then load the "Paint" programme and select "Edit" then "Paste" and you'll get the screen shot so you can then edit/crop etc and save it as a JPEG if needed.
Oh and I take it you've heard about the Corgi model of George Harrisons "Psychedelic Mini"? It got released a few years ago, but then got withdrawn because Apple were threatening legal action over copyright issues or whatever?
Still you can usually get one on E-bay for around £70.00 these days.

Cheers Taffy .
Some choice images on that site mate, a couple of of which I have on file already though I can't remember where they came from. Theres a very brief clip of George driving his car on the Beatles Anthology dvd, filmed c1995 / 96 and it looks ace, imagine how fab (not to mention traffic stopping) it must have looked back in '67 when he had it repainted from its original all over black .
I've had a look at the Corgi model, its a bit sparse and anyway its a Mk3 shell!!!
cheers,
Nidge

I do remember footage of Mcartney arriving at the studio in his Radford whilst recording the groovy Revolver album. Bet he can't !
That car's had a less than sympathetic restoration in the U.S. Rosepetals ? Pah !

Aha . . . . . not seen that! Theres a good bit of b&w footage on the Anthology set of Lennon arriving at Abbey Road in December '66 in his gorgeous black Radford . . . . . blacked out windows, black bumpers, black wheels . . . . . brilliant!
Maccas car had those lovely early Cosmics when he had it, saw one for sale at Stanford Hall recently, didn't dare ask how much . . . .

Taffy,
If you want to save any of those pics right click on the image, press 'ok' when it appears then place your cursor in the top left of the pic - a 'save image' bar will appear . . . .
I've been in touch with Arno Kempers and hes ok with that.

Okay thanks but i've just checked and the site is allowing me to save it's images in the normal fashion now I'm using Mozilla/Firefox instead of Internet Explorer.
I've had a look at the Corgi model, its a bit sparse and anyway its a Mk3 shell!!!
Still a nice looking model with good packaging though and Corgi models are never that accurate anyway (just look at "The Italian Job" Mini Cooper S models they released over the years!), I guess that helps keep the prices down, so it's a shame it got discontinued and has now become an expensive sought after collectors item.

It looks the part I guess .
I've made a half hearted 'attempt' at modelling Georges car based on one of the Tamiya Mk1 Cooper kits but obviously it doesn't have the spotlamp fairings on the bonnet or the modified rear lights and the paint job is very basic, plus the webasto is made of black duck tape . . . .
If theres one Mini I'd love to own some day its this one but I suspect theres not much chance of that happening!

| Talking of Beatles' Minis, whatever happened to the Radford hatchback owned by the fifth Beatle George Best ? Do any pictures exist ? He owned the car whilst living at his self designed house in Bramhall whilst playing for United.

I didn't even know he owned a fancy Mini because all the old TV/Film footage shows him driving things like E-Type Jags or Lambourgini Europa's etc.

That surprises me too . . . . . I knew he had an E-Type (he talked about it on 'The Cars The Star') and he had a white Mk2 Jag early on . . . . .
Would love to know what happened to Mick Jaggers '67 E reg Cooper too, theres a newsreel clip of it I've seen once or twice where Marianne Faithful turns up to visit him in prison during the Stones famous drug bust that year. The footage is b&w and the car looks very similar to John Lennons black Cooper S . . . .

I think Marianne was waiting outside the court (and getting her picture taken by reporters) whilst Mick was facing drug charges. Then he came out and they both jumped into their Mini Cooper S and shot off down the road.

Aye, thats the ticket . . . . its only a short clip but it did show the rear number plate as I recall, as they pootled off back to Chelsea no doubt. Just remembered actually - think I have it on video somewhere, part of a BBC2 doc on the '60s from a year or two back . . . . will have a dig about and see if I can find it.
Something else I've just remembered too - I remember reading in Classic & Sportscar mag a few years ago that one of their regular columnists Martin Buckley was working on a book about all the Beatles cars, does anyone know if it ever made it into print . . . . ?

Wood & Picketts premises with Mick Jaggers '67 Cooper S (OGO 668E) parked outside, with Lawrence Harveys car too .

Regarding George Best's Radford, I think there may have been a picture of it with an obituary in January's issue of the MCR mag , can't check cos I've lost it. Few details seem to exist of the car .

| I wonder if Mick Jaggers Mini is still about, is it registered on the DVLA database?

Found that DVLA link :
http://www.vehiclelicence.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/ click on vehicle enquiry and away you go . . . .
I typed in Jaggers reg. no. and it came up blank, same for the other three Minis in the W&P showroom photo.
George and Ringo's Cooper S's are still on the books of course .
